Fonab Castle Hotel

Fantastic place to stay when visiting Pitlochry. Friendly warm welcome from concierge. Rooms and public areas beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Service in restaurant was very efficient although could have been friendlier. Breakfast menu was a bit confusing that the continental option was a starter to share - would have been helpful if this had been explained by staff. Spa itself is a bit underwhelming as both the pool and outdoor hot tubs look straight onto the car parking and the communal areas were very cold as a door was left permanently open to allow access to the outdoor hot tubs. Spa staff very friendly though.

A lovely hotel in a quiet setting. Bar service was a bit slow but available most times during the day. Food service was ok. Breakfast was good… wide variety… although fruit could have been fresher, ( apple was brown). Dinner at night was ok. Entertainer was good, enjoyed his music and cheerfulness. Difficult to get a taxi on the day we left and was pouring with rain. Staff were really helpful and took us to the train for which we were really grateful! I suggest booking a cab the day before. Our room was comfortable and a good size. However the bathroom window curtains need attention. A shower curtain pinned up with press studs wasn’t appropriate for security and privacy! We would stay again.
McKays Hotel

Have just enjoyed a great three nights in the Suite at McKays. It was beautiful, warm and comfy and had everything we needed. Didn't expect to have so much room, and even a walk-in wardrobe. Breakfast was good. I loved the haggis. We booked for steak night on the Friday which was lovely and great value, although we both would have preferred the steaks not chargrilled. Location great. The staff, especially the waiting staff were very friendly and welcoming. We've already booked to come back to the same room next year.

Our second trip to this amazing hotel. Which was just as good, if not better than our first trip. We opted to arrive early so we could have lunch, as we were not going to be able to have diner that night due to visiting the Pitlochry Enchanted Forest later that evening. We were totally spoiled for choice with the lunch menu, everything we tried from the menu was delicious. My partner's highlight was the carrot rolls and for me it was the king oyster mushrooms. We were honoured and delighted to be able to meet the chef who had produced such wonderful creations and pass on our compliments. We were so glad of the lovely bar and it's wood burner when we returned from the Enchanted Forest. Our stay of 2 nights was incredibly relaxing and just the thing after a busy time at work. We had diner on the second night and the food was just as good as lunch and this time due to it being bonfire night we got to watch the fireworks while having diner. There was so much sightseeing in the area that we could have done but the hotel is so relaxing that we just ended up staying in and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. Breakfast was utterly tasty, they make without doubt the best tofu scramble we have ever tasted. The staff are all attentive and professional. Can't wait to return to this gem of a hotel.
Port Na Craig Inn

A lovely stay with an upgrade to a cottage, all quickly and efficiently arranged. This was a trip in honour of an annual expedition for my late wife Caroline and I to the Pitlochry area for autumn. Caroline always wanted to stay in the lovely cottages so it was fate and her sparkle that helped with the upgrade. Food is incredible and a wide selection of choices along with fantastic, friendly service and drinks. Very good to eat and sit by the river in warmer times. Terrific breakfast too. The cottage was spacious and kept warm. Very comfy. They are not new so you must allow for some quirky spaces and layouts. It was lovely to have that space to relax. Port Na Craig is a 10/15m walk from the town over the suspension bridge or the dam. It's a beautiful walk but be careful near water. Pitlochry is a beautiful town that Caroline and I have enjoyed for years and I'll continue to honour her by visiting. Thanks to the Port Na Craig team for making me so welcome and for the prosecco for toasting Caroline. Much appreciated.
Scotland's Spa Hotel

Firstly check in was for 4pm, we arrived at 10 past 4, room wasn’t ready, waited till quarter past 5, no offer of a drink while we waited and no excuse as to why there was a delay. When we did check in we couldn’t get breakfast till half 10, other times were booked up. And there was no availability for dinner reservations. This hotel has supposedly won the spa awards- really don’t know why- the changing rooms were dirty with dirty towels lay about - no where in the changing rooms to put them. Nothing to dry swimwear either. The pool is like a fish bowl, they really need to frost the windows and make it a bit more private, the steam room smelt like feet and looked ancient, made of plastic and dirty, lastly the jacuzzi water looked green and filthy, really disappointed. They need a manager or senior member of staff to take responsibility for the spa area and update it and ensure it’s kept clean. The room was basic, not kept well, had just been cleaned and cleaning sprays left sitting in room. The curtains don’t cover the window, so light really early. Furniture poor with scratches over them. Really dated decor. The breakfast was good, arriving at 10:30 though the continental was sparse and not topped up the whole time we were there. Cooked breakfast was really good. Location was good for the enchanted forest, but otherwise I will not be returning. Will look for something else next year. I would not recommend this hotel.
