We spent two nights here towards the tail end of a central Italy vacation in April 2024. We chose it based on a variety of positive reviews and being recommended by Rick Steves. Great choice! Joe and Ivana (the owners) were so welcoming and kind! Our room (32) was huge by central Italy standards, well appointed and had a balcony that overlooked the valley leading to Casteglione del Lago towards Umbria. Got to see a gorgeous sunrise to start our second day. Ivana served a wonderful breakfast each morning. There are 7 parking spots reserved for the hotel down below the hotel’s setting in the historic section near the Piazza Grande. Be sure to print out the hotel info they send you and put it on the dashboard to avoid a return hike back to your car.

This hotel is simply magical! We stayed in Room 33 which had a loft and balcony. The room was spacious and decorated beautifully with antique furnishings. The hospitality was superb as were the sweets Ivana (the owner) served each morning with breakfast. The views, the location, everything was absolutely incredible!

Our only complaint was the weather and I blame God for that. The owners and the staff were kind and patient with us and our fellow disoriented American tourists. The view from our suite #31 was even better than we hoped but, again, the cold rain made it hard to enjoy for too long. Breakfast included American coffee which pleased my husband and fig cake which pleased me. If we're ever in the area again, we will return.

This hotel is in the perfect location in the city square . Rooms are absolutely stunning. We had such a great experience for our first trip to Montepulciano. This property is family owned and operated by such warm, wonderful people. We will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone who is planning on visiting Montepulciano

A Walk Thru History! Very Nice! Warm welcome upon arrival and a beautiful room with outdoor terrace perfect for early morning coffee and afternoon relaxation! The history of the property and the family was a wonderful insight! We were there as the season was winding down and several restaurants were closed on the days we were there. The recommendations from the staff were perfect! Breakfast was served each morning and a great start to each day!

This hotel is everything you read in the descriptions and more. We stayed in one of the suites with an amazing balcony with unbeatable views. The room was spacious and lovely. The owners and staff are welcoming. Breakfast is additional, simple, and easy. Parking is a few blocks away, but you can unload your bags first and then drive to parking. Because of the amazing location of the hotel just steps from the main piazza, this is to be expected. The staff made great dining and wine tasting recommendations.

Il Riccio is every bit as good as the reviews say it is. Absolutely charming hotel set in a historic palazzo. We were fortunate to stay in one of the spacious suites with a fabulous terrace patio that we enjoyed every day. Everything is clean and meticulously maintained. The staff is attentive, friendly, and makes the stay easy for Americans. The proprietors are on site each day to ensure a high quality experience. Pricing was quite reasonable compared to other places in Tuscany, and provided an excellent value.

The location could not be more convenient, right off the main square. The building is an architectural gem--guidebooks actually recommend that even those not saying in the hotel poke their heads in to view the courtyard "lobby" on the ground floor. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast (extra) was quite good. One note: actually getting to Montepulciano is tricky. There is a bus which I did not try. The train station is an unwalkable distance outside of town. If you are driving the hotel can provide you with a free parking space only a few hundred feet from their front door, but you should let them know in advance--you can park for a few minutes in the piazza but you will have a problem if you stay there for long. The hotel was very helpful in assisting me with parking.

Beautiful room with spectacular views and warm welcoming service. The location is perfect at the top of the hill at the square and it feels like you are coming home at the end of the day exploring this quaint village. We will most certainly stay here again when back again as gives you the quintessential Montepulciano experience.
