Bamboo Banks in Masinagudi, right next to the wildlife sanctuary, was probably the first of its kind there. It has existed for 50+ years, long before the creation of the term eco-tourist, that many of us call ourselves, and still met our every need! We really enjoyed our visit that included a safari drive around the 42 acres, seeing a herd of chital deer and Nilgiri langur monkeys with a brief highlight (a little too quick for us to capture on camera!) when a skirmish between two monkeys ended with one bouncing off the back of a nearby deer on his way to the nearest tree refuge. The food, local recipes mostly comprising vegetables grown on the property, was excellent, and the layout of the dining area meant that, even though all seven cabins on the property were occupied, we managed some privacy for our group of eight. Brother and sister co-owners Zerasp and Shehnaz clearly are (and also have) a winning team, that catered to our every need. We learnt about the role of Masinagudi during Tipu Sultan's time, the impact of the Forest Department's less than useful night-time road closure scheme, saw the deep ditch around the 42 acre property to keep elephants out, sometimes unsuccessfully, which has led to an electric fence around the large vegetable plot that provides food for the kitchen, and partook of perhaps too much of that food. The kids headed straight to the carrom board and table tennis table after lunch, no doubt leaving the swimming pool, pony rides, impressive library and board game collection for later. Overall, a great time, thank you.
