I finally tried the experience of staying in Chungking Mansions. I had a private room with private bathroom in Tsim Sha Tsui for about 100 yuan, which was quite good. Of course, for people with mysophobia or high accommodation requirements, they may not be able to live there. There is an Indian uncle at the front desk who speaks English and Cantonese but not Mandarin. BTW here are all Indians, and Indian food is very authentic.
