Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel & Resort

Ninh Thang|0.74km from downtown
The interior is beautiful. The ceiling is a bit low, so the lobby can feel a bit crowded. It looks like it's 4.5 star. It seems a difficult problem to maintain. Cleaning seems to require re-education. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast buffet is reasonable. There are not many kinds and expensive foods, but it was delicious and fresh. The pool is small but the facilities are not bad. However, it was a pity that there was no shower guide before the customer arrived. The gym facilities are not bad, but the cleaning is not very good. There are not many users, so it's usually like turning off the air conditioner and opening the door, but then the dust is sitting a little. I can see insects sometimes. The window is big, so if you just clean up the pool outside the window, the view is good. The mountain view was very pretty in the 7th floor room I stayed, the bed was fluffy, the sheets were clean, and there was a bathtub. The bathroom door is closed, and the bathtub window is Romanshade. Cleaning is also insufficient. I was a little sorry that there was no lounge on the second floor. It runs an outdoor bar, but it is not available on hot summer days. I didn't eat room service, but it was cheap and I had goat meat fried in the restaurant, and there were too many lemongrass for my taste, but it was foody and delicious. The interior is beautiful. The ceiling is a bit low so the lobby can be felt a bit crowded. It looks 4.5 star level hotel to me. It seems to have a difficulty in maintaining. Cleaning seems to require retraining. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is decent. There are not many kinds and there are not expensive ingredients, but they are delicious and fresh, so I liked that way more. Although the swimming pool is small, the facilities are not bad. However, it was a little disappointing that there were no shower instructions for customers before entering the pool. The gym facilities are not bad, but the cleanliness is also very poor. There aren't many users, so it seems like they usually turn off the air conditioner and open the door, but that's why there's a bit of dust sitting there. Insects are also occasionally seen. There is a large window, so if you tidy up the grass outside the window, the view will be good. The mountain view from the room I stayed on the 7th floor was very pretty, the bed was soft, the sheets were clean, and there was a bathtub. The bathroom door closes tightly, and the bathtub window has a Roman shade. The cleanliness is also poor. It was a little disappointing that there was no lounge on the 2nd floor. There is an outdoor bar, but it is difficult to sit outside on hot summer days. I haven't tried room service, but the price is really good. I tried the goat meat stir-fry at the restauran. The amount generous and tastes delicious even though there was too much lemongrass for my taste.

Mua Caves Ecolodge (Hang Mua)

Hoa Lu District|3.39km from downtown
Stayed in the bungalow for 2 nights. The room was ok, but the bathroom was not great. I could smell the toilet as soon as we were shown our bungalow for our stay which was not impressive, so we had to close the door every time. The bathroom looked half done. There was no shower, just a bathtub with a shower head that sat waist high, which meant it was very awkward for those that don’t want to use the bath. The mirror was too large at the sink that the corner was over part of the nailed shut window. The bungalow we stayed at was near the massage and spa place along with pool tables next to it. This was noisy in the mornings. The only saving grace was the view outside the bungalow, and being able to enjoy the mountain at sunrise before visitors arrive during the day. They had a restaurant located on site which closes around 9.30pm. The food was standard and nothing special, and the first morning they didn’t have a breakfast buffet. Instead they had a given us a menu which was hand written, and told to pick what we wanted to order for breakfast. The options were very limited and my noodles were very oily. I would save my money and stay elsewhere, or just take the day trip from Hanoi. It may have been worthwhile if we chose a different lodging option but I definitely would not be running back to stay. The staff were nice and booked us taxis into town as there was not much nearby to eat something decent. I left feeling extremely disappointed, and initially when we booked the room the photos seemed to show a different story. I wish I took photos to show the disappointment, but it was the last thing on our mind.

Ninh Binh Valle Montana Homestay
4.7/516 Reviews
There are 5 rooms. We'd originally booked the largest, but found it was right next to the pool and all guests had to walk past the only window. The other rooms (as far as I could tell) are all the same layout with a bed hard up against one wall. For an older couple it makes getting up in the night awkward. The bed is very hard. There is a kettle and fridge but no cups or Tea/Coffee/Water. These are relatively trivial and could be easily remedied. On the positive side, the brother and sister who run it are lovely people and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast is great and the on-site restaurant good. The pool is fantastic and spotlessly clean. They have free bikes for use and very cheap scooter hire. The location is excellent and near other places to eat. 10 minute cycle to Trang An boats and Mua cave Lookout.
Tam Coc Rocky Bungalow

Great position, near the Birch Dong pagoda, near town, but close enough out that it feels more authentic. The bungalows are clean and comfortable, right next to a karst mountain with a massive cave that goes under it. You can ask them to take you on a boat ride through to the other side, where a village lady took us through a cave system. 200,000 baht for two, the villager asked for a tip of 50,000baht, for the three of us, which is uncomfortable, but I paid as for me it was worth it. Just hate the tipping culture would rather know a price upfront. But that was not the bungalows fault. Enjoyed the food, and the family, they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. And they understood our English.
Ninh Binh Greenland Homestay

We stayed in this homestay for 3 nights in January. Upon arrival the hosts were welcoming and helpful and allowed us to check in early. The room was well sized with good ammenities. However, the room got quite cold during the night and the AC does not have a heat setting. They supply you with a small heater but this was not really enough. Suggest including some warmer blankets during winter. We also found the hot water does not last very long so it’s very hard to warm up after a day of scootering in the cold wind. There were also some animals living in our wall so was hard to sleep. The food was good and the ammenities of the place were good too - free bikes and scooters are cheap. They offer laundry and bus booking services too. There are cute kittens that hang around and the general area is nice. The homestay is well located close to Mua Cave and a scooter ride from everything else. Be aware it is very rural and you may see some shocking things around the area that are unrelated to this accomodation (think family violence, dead animals, etc). Overall, good budget accomodation but wouldn’t suggest staying in winter.
Tam Coc Koi Homestay

I have been travelling for around 6 weeks now and this is by far the best homestay that I’ve stayed in whilst being here. The rooms are extremely spacious with A/C, the pool was lovely and the location is superb. The ladies that runs this homestay needs her own paragraph because she is phenomenal, whether it’s recommending places to go or helping with any day to day issues you may have she is always on hand to help. Our bus out of Ninh Binh was a late one but she let us keep the room all day free of charge because of how hot it was. Not only this, when we left she provided us with water and snacks to take with us. She is an absolute credit to the homestay and I cannot praise this absolute gem of a place to stay enough.
Tam Coc Thanh Dat Homestay

Our first homestay so not sure what to expect but it was brilliant! Lovely room with bed, table, chairs, kettle, cups (no tea bags...), fridge, shower etc and a little outside undercover seating area. All enclosed in a courtyard that's full of trees, flowers and other plants. Very relaxing, peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was nice, banana pancakes were good, but would perhaps have done with a little more cooking. The family who run the homestay were amazing, so helpful and kind. We arrived at 4am (8 hours before check in!) And they were happy to have us check in early for only 100,000 dong or 150,000 dong with breakfast. So grateful for this!! We hired a moped from the family (a well used moped but it did the trick!) And they had bicycles available too. Location-wise it's off of the main strips but no more than a 5 to 10 minute walk from the restaurants and pubs and the lake. We didnt visit Tam Coc lake but went to Trang An which was muuuuch nicer and you don't get scammed! Overall couldnt recommended this place enough.

Tommy and Lien are such good and friendly hosts. De location is great, nearby restaurants, spa’s and pubs, but very quiet. De room is great and cosy. We got a very good breakfast every morning. And Tommy arranged a fantastic tour with the easy riders to the Mua caves and other highlights. We would highly recommend a stay here!
