Friendly and helpful welcome when we checked in. First thing we noticed was how clean and well organised the place was, and this was maintained right through our visit - every day the public areas, particularly the member's kitchen, were in perfect order whenever we got back in the late afternoon. Public areas comprise a large dining area with different size tables, at the end of this are sofas around a woodburner. Off this is a large and well equipped Member's kitchen, with 2 microwaves, 2 fridges etc. Far better than so many hostels nowadays. There's also a small separate lounge with a TV. Upstairs plenty of toilets and showers so no queuing. Outside the car park at the front is very tight and rather muddy, which caused a few issues, but there is on road parking at the front and side too - the hostel is on a quiet side road so no worries about leaving the car out. Convenient spot - it's very quiet with just distant noise from the A170 road but very handy with the market square reached via quiet roads and an alley within 5 minutes. When we visited the other guests were a mixture of cyclist groups, families, couples and a few bikers. This is just luck but everyone there with us was friendly, relaxed and mainly chatty which added to the good a**osphere. Shout to the Baz the warden who was on duty, great ambassador for the YHA with his hard work and sense of humour.
