The managers of the Hotel Timbouctou in Merzouga really have the art and the gift of making your stay very unpleasant and regrettable. For skeptics who still want to experience the adventure (or rather the misadventure), suspense is guaranteed until the last moment of departure. In the case of our small group (between friends), a manager ran to stop the bus that was transporting us to the airport. Out of breath and shouting out loud, he chanted almost hysterically the name of a customer. Everyone thought he was bringing her something precious that she must have forgotten. Except that to everyone's surprise, the manager came to ask the customer for the price of a small 50 cl bottle of mineral water (at 10 dirhams for the occasion!) when she had just paid the costs. 'one night's stay and a bill for a meal plus extras. Some tourists were laughing under their breath. But this is really just the tip of the iceberg. The service leaves a lot to be desired, offered by young people hired “on task” who improvise without the slightest mastery of the rules of decency and manners. The toilets in the rooms are dirty. A real blow for Moroccan tourism which complains of a difficult economic situation while it cannot satisfy a national clientele which replaces a foreign clientele, without forgetting a green swimming pool which does not tempt to take a dip. Contrary to the locals or more precisely Chez Ahlam, a modest setting but which makes you want to extend your stay. Brilliant cleanliness, an ingrained service culture, a friendliness that leaves no one indifferent… In short, this welcoming hostel is a showcase of Moroccan tourism that rivals that of the great capitals of the world.
