Riad Fes - Relais & Chateaux

First of all, this is absolutely a 5-star hotel in terms of the physical property. The building is breathtaking, the location is perfect, the services offered, from the in-house restaurant to the spa to the rooms are really quite difficult to fault, at least on paper. Unfortunately, this is where the good seems to end. There are a number of recent reviews heavily criticizing the service here. We decided to ignore them, figuring it was likely just a few one-off bad experienced, and that ours would be better. This was a mistake. The service is some of the worst I have received period, from any hotel. The full list of complaints is too long and detailed to really convey here, but suffice to say, the short of it is that we were constantly made to feel a burden to the staff. At every turn, it seems they tried to do as little as possible to assist. One such example, when we asked if they could spell the name of a restaurant they suggested, we were told ”no.” Didn't ask if they could make a reservation for us, escort us to there, or even (god forbid) print out a map or listing of the restaurant, just asked to spell it. When we arrive our first night to a shower drain that failed to function, we had to try 4 separate times to get it repaired, each time them sending up the same person, a bellhop, to do the work, and telling us that we were wrong that the drain was broken. The video we have of the shower overflowing after each ”repair” would seem to suggest we weren't indeed wrong. We asked prior to arrival if they could arrange shipping of some souvenirs home, they assured us it wasn't a problem, I'll let you guess how that turned out. Service was bad to the point that one evening, the bartender running the rooftop bar, which was losing power every few minutes and staffed by one sole bartender for 40+ guests, was evening complaining. The list goes on for much longer, and in some cases, more egregious offenses. Worst of all, when we reached out to the property to share our experience, they failed to even reply. No apology, no cut and paste PR reply, not even an email confirming they had received our (now numerous) emails - just radio silence. The primary issue seemed to be two fold, the first being that the hotel is understaffed, the second being that (some of) the staff that was there seemed to be poorly trained in hospitality. Really, there are too many great Riads and other accommodations in Fes to bother staying here - do yourself a favor and find another.

Personally feel that it is quite good. In a small alley, the door is very inconspicuous, but the people who navigated to the side are very enthusiastic to lead you. Close to the blue door of Feis, there is breakfast. Although it is not delicious, it is very rich. The price is very cheap.

It really depends what is important to you. While this place has some shortcomings, the location may make it worth overcoming those. That said there are a ton of places to stay nearby, so it does feel like a bit of settling. Pros Location location location - it’s nice to not navigate the maze and harassment of the Médina. It is well placed for arrival/departure near a petit taxi stand and a very short walk to the Blue Gate. It’s also convenient to many restaurants and the bars of Hotel Batha. Decor - the lobby and rooms are nicely renovated and generally clean. Terrace - a nice rooftop terrace Plenty of hot water Air conditioning and heat in room Decent WiFi Cons Noise - Even with ear plugs and windows closed, I heard every knock at the door. Every phone ringing (began at 0630) and the noise in the alleyway. I can imagine this is significantly worse when there are more guests and visitors in general. I was upstairs, so I imagine that the room just off the lobby must be terrible. Ask to see your room before paying. Smell - as others noted the room has a smell. The heater seems to be the issue as it was most prevalent when in use. Bathroom - At 1.6m tall, I was as unable to sit on the toilet due to it being so close to shower. I literally had to use it sitting sideways. This seems problematic for anyone slightly taller or with limited mobility. The shower head was also broken which caused water to shoot everywhere in the bathroom. Housekeeping/security - I was surprised to find all of my stuff moved and rearranged upon returning to the room. I’ve never had such aggressive “cleaning” in a hotel. This included my bag and contents as well moving my underwear that was hanging to dry and my mouth guard which was on the bedside table. There is a safe and I would advise using it for valuables. On my last evening, I asked what time check out was and was told noon. The next day I returned before 11 to find my room wide open and already serviced. It’s unclear if they actually changed the sheets. I was happy to have traveled with a sleeping bag liner as there was only a flat sheet and blanket atop a mattress cover - odd. Breakfast - a carbfest of multiple breads and pastries. They will make eggs. Mine were raw on day 1, so I passed on the remaining days. It’s fine, but not worth delaying your day to stick around for it. Summary - if you’re a short, carb-loving heavy sleeper this might be the perfect place for you.

Nunca he tenido una tan mal experiencia.

Our family of 7 was split into 3 massive and accommodating rooms. The Ryad was architecturally eye-catching with each room being completely uniquely designed and spacious. While one room had 3 story ceiling and its own sitting area, another had private terrace access, so there will be a special room for you, whatever your needs. The food served for meals was the best we had on the entire trip with a good variety and perfectly-cooked chicken tagine. The Ryad also had several amenities including a terrace and a separate private meeting room. The staff was incredibly friendly and always helpful. This Ryad was among our favorites and a stay here is highly recommended.
Riad Lala Drissia

We stayed 4 nights at Riad Drissia and were delighted by its welcoming and warm atmosphere. Khalid was a great host, always keen to help (is ordering a taxi or giving us pointers on activities around). We started every morning on the right foot with a copious, varied home cooked breakfast. The location was ideal as it is a 5 minute walk away from the Blue door, in a calm side street near the main bustling avenue. We felt safe in this area, even returning late at night. Plenty of food and shopping options around. The room was clean, fully equipped with TV, AC and WiFi. Slight sour note, the lay out of the road is such that sound proofing is poor. Shower temperature varies as does the water pressure. We would happily recommend this riad

What a gem of a place to stay. We stayed an extra day in Fes because of it. The owner when you arrive spends time telling you about the history and what to look out for (good & bad) Rooms are clean and tidy and maintained daily. The other staff are like the owner and friendly and helpful. I’m sat writing this with my bags packed ready to continue my Moroccan journey with a hint of sadness because I am leaving this place. If you are reading this looking for a place to stay then look no further- you have found a diamond
