We stayed here for a 2 nights on a Distant Journey (DJ) tour of Japan. Arrived around 5pm by coach from Mt Fuji area. Check in was well organised but it was after 6pm before our luggage arrived in our room on 8th floor. We were meant to meet our TM and guide between 7 and 7.30 for advice on where to have dinner. Map in hand we turned right outside hotel and proceeded into town. Recommended restaurants were very difficult to find. Any we did find, including those not mentioned, were either fully reserved or full or, as time passed towards 8pm, were closing. We headed back to the hotel to find buffet option was £45 or set Japanese meal ¥8,300 (£53). Many of us went to a 711 across the road from hotel and bought ready meals, which they heated for us in microwave, beer or wine and we retreated to our rooms. The street lighting is poor so navigation from a map was difficult. Breakfast was like school dinners but passable. Bar closes at 7pm!!! If you are reading this and are on a JD tour get to town early to stand a chance of eating out. A group did find a restaurant very close by hotel before the bridge on opposite side of road to 711 but the name unrecognisable as in Japanese, photo attached.

A very good place and a good value but in need of updating and refurbishment. Liked · Great staff who could not do enough for you. The location is perfect. Food for dinner was delicious, but the service was very rushed and there were several miscommunications with the staff. breakfast was good but not great. Lots of amenities in the room. The lobby. The holiday decorations and the outside terrace were lovely. Super clean. The free coffee, tea, soft drinks, and raman in the lobby were a wonderful touch. Location is perfect and veiw from the room was wonderful. Disliked · Decor was very dated in the room and somewhat depressing. Toilet paper and towels were both terrible; they were cheap and awful. Such a shame for such a nice place to cut corners on a minor but important detail. Little or no storage in the room except for some hangers.

We departed from Osaka to Takayama late, and chose this hotel because it is located opposite the JR station and Takayama bus station, which is very convenient. The staff was a bit indifferent when checking-in, but I didn't want to talk to you, but English was OK. The hotel room is small and a bit old, the basic facilities are provided, but it is still clean. Our room rate included breakfast. Unexpectedly, the breakfast quality was good. I ordered a Japanese breakfast with fried salmon and alpine famous things, Pu Ye Wei, very delicious and full. The area of Takayama is not very large, so you can visit the main tourist and shopping locations of Takayama City.

A new hotel just built in front of Takayama station. It is a stay type hotel, but artists are decorated everywhere and fashionable. This time, Superior twin. The room itself is not particularly characteristic, but there is a sofa on the window side and it can be relaxed. This sofa is a bed, so you can stay for three people. Electric pots, empty refrigerators, washing dryers, microwave ovens, etc. are also complete. Recommended for long stay. The bathroom is small in the unit. Especially the toilet is small. There is a comfortable public bath, so I wanted to relax the toilet part only by shower. Amenities are only toothbrushes, and amenities are available on the first floor. Shaving, brush, tea bags such as tea and green tea, cosmetics, cotton swabs, cotton, etc. The public bath is also fashionable with designer specifications. There is also an open-air bath. You can enjoy two different design hot springs in the men and women replacement system. The atmosphere is like a public bath in a luxury inn. It doesn't seem to be in front of the station. Country Hotel Takayama is the perfect home away from home in Takayama, Gifu Japan.This hotel is located right across the Nohi Bus Terminal which is right beside to Takayama Train Station. When you get off from the bus, you will immediately see the building. Aside from their perfect location, this hotel also has a KONBINI (are Japanese convenience stores) Family Mart at the ground floor, open 24 hours. Morning markets, Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, Old Town Street, Hida Kokubunji Temple and Nakabashi bridge are a few tourist location you can easily access by walking (10-15 minutes) from the hotel. I was here last February 24 to 26, 2020. The room is quite spacious for me, got a single room type but I think it can accommodate 2 people in it. I was able to booked it online through Agoda.com for Php 4,024.78, not bad! It has complete basic amenities you can find in a room including a comfy sleeping robe. Room is super clean and smells so good. Considering I wrongly booked the smoking type room. The only downside I had about the room was that the heater was broken. It was so hot inside, thanked God it was winter time so I just slightly opened my window. So cold breeze from the outside can get in. Overall, Country Hotel Takayama is HIGHLY RECOMMEND aside from their perfect location. Staff are very good, speaks English and really helpful and accommodating. Their Manager helped me booked a taxi who is going to picked me up at the highway on my route to Gujo Hachiman. Because taxis in Gujo Hachiman are booked a day before your arrival and they don’t speak English at all. And If you’re a Filipino, you are most likely going to bumped into one of our kababayan who is working on this hotel. So far, she’s the only Pinoy here and she speaks Bisaya, from Davao City. I hope this help post helps you in your future travels to the beautiful City of Takayama.

The hotel is only 1 block across the JR station with many restaurants around the area, less than 10 minutes leisure walk to the historic area. Room is very well maintained and spacious, with comfortable beddings, strong showers. The hotel is very responsive with my emails and questions, I feel that they are really trying their best to accomodate my request with occupant change that we really appreciate. Breakfast is adequate with a good selection of hot dishes, Japanese and continental. Overall a great hotel in Takayama

Hotel is in a very good location being very near to the Old Town where the attractions and restaurants are. However there is limited parking space, and we had to park in a public car park 100m away. This was our first time at a ryokan and it’s going to set the bar really high. As another reviewer noted, Oyado Koto no Yume embodies the best of hospitality. Right upon arrival, our hosts were warm and helpful. Would also note that the lady whom I think is the owner speaks very good English if necessary. I’ve noticed that the staff will also speak basic Japanese slowly if it’s clear that you’re learning the language and are struggling to speak it but trying—I really appreciated that :) You’re asked to take your shoes off upon entry, which being Asian, I love. I think the host also wiped down the wheels of our suitcases. This little place just goes beyond and above with all the nice things they offer additionally (price inclusive) to ensure you have a lovely stay. There’s a yukata service, where they let you choose a yukata to wear inside or outside, as well as plush coats hanging in the lobby area that you can borrow if it’s cold outside. They have aromatherapy burners with a variety of scents that you can choose, just ask the front desk for an aroma pot. The room itself was pristine and immediately instilled in us a sense of calm. There are little snacks waiting on the table, a fridge that’s actually a fridge and not a minibar so can actually be used by the guest, a full set of cups and plates along with a kettle and coffee pod machine, and the host will explain that you get sleep yukatas and specific face towels as well. If you have the Japanese-style room, the staff will make up your futon while you’re out. They left a sweet note on ours and also a put a pitcher of ice water on the table. It was these little touches that made our stay really pleasant and memorable. Would also mention that if you’re there longer, or it’s raining, there’s a small manga library downstairs and it looks like you can also do origami, which will get proudly displayed in a glass cabinet. There’s also a bathhouse and you can reserve a private one for a small fee. Staying at Oyado Koto no Yume felt like being a welcome guest at home. After we checked out, we were given a set of Takayama postcards as a gift. Would highly recommend you stay here if visiting the charming town of Takayama, and experience the best of Japanese hospitality. I can’t wait to go back. ありがとうございました~

It is close to Takayama JR Station, and it is also very eye-catching and easy to find. It has a good design and is a good value for money in a hotel. The only problem is sound insulation. There are a lot of ”supers” about this hotel: - Super nice design. There are a lot of hotels in Japan that are on the cheaper end of mid-range that fail in the design category, but not the Eph Takayama. - Super close to the train station. It was an easy walk with our carry-on, wheely suitcases. - Super close to old town and the various Takayama attractions. - Super breakfast and coffee/tea/cocoa station. The breakfast was more like lunch (panini, salad, and soup), but it was all freshly made and delicious. There was also a coffee/tea/cocoa machine that was available to guests from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Super convenient to have coin laundry available in the hallway. We took full advantage of this! If we ever go back to Takayma I won't bother looking for anywhere else to stay - the Eph it is!

I was quite disappointed by the services of this hotel. It should mention it’s a self-help apartment instead of call itself a hotel so that customers’s expectations won’t be mismatched. No hotel service provided here like no towel changing, no room tidying up service, etc. my room is a tatami room, I have to set up 4 tatami beds all by myself. when I tried to book for breakfast, the staff told me it’s full, when I tried to book the carpark, staff giving unclear information and made me failed to book upon my arrival. I arrived earlier to book for carpark, the staff said the reservation for carpark will be opened at 3pm. When I arrived at 5pm, the carpark is full. Then I asked if I could book the carpark for tomorrow, the staff said cannot book now, I asked when is the carpark slot opened for reserve, the receptionist said 10am. Really confusing ……. Staff can’t communicate in English but they will use the translation machine. Pros side is the Room is spacious but with if you are looking for hotel it’s not, better call it a self help apartment

The joint bath had time constraints, but I used it early in the morning. The washroom is a small bath with only ３ places, but when I used it, I was alone, so I was able to enter it relaxingly. Breakfast was a lunch box for corona convenience. Unfortunately, Bento and miso soup were not delicious, but they left most of them. The accommodation fee is cheap, and there are many taverns and ramen shops around, and I think it is a convenient inn.

We were lucky to stay at Mercure Takayami on their opening night. Everything about the hotel was above our expectations. Rooms were a very comfortable with attention to detail. Having USB and USB C charging ports for our electronics next to the bed was very convenient and meant we didn't need to search for our Japan power adaptors. This hotel has been well designed with a focus on local traditional carpentry and joinery skills. When you book this hotel make sure you book a room that includes access to the private Onsen. We had an open-air experience while we watched the snow from our private onsen. Breakfast had an extensive range of Tradition Hida dishes and Western choices, with different options available each day. This was a great way to try Hida Beef Curry and Hida chicken cooked on a traditional grill. Staff were very helpful going above and beyond with their dedicated and personal service, even searching the internet for me to find a store that sold Yama Cola. We will be back to stay again and will try to stay longer next time.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife and daughter in two separate rooms. The room size is certainly larger than most hotels of this category in Japan. Quite well laid out in terms of separation of areas for laundry, kitchen, toilet, bathroom + shower, and basin. An internal door closes off the bedroom from the kitchen, laundry etc. Wardrobe is quite huge. Fridge is quite big. Not a bar fridge. Useful if you planned to cook a lot during your stay. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary appliances and utensils. Hotel requests that you wash all your dishes. Washing machine is huge too with all the bells and whistles of a smart machine. Thoughtful provisions: Dimmable ceiling lights with changeable colour from daylight to cool white and warmwhite via remote control. Daily supply of yukata and bedroom slippers. Daily supply of bottled water in the fridge. Daily supply of laundry detergent and softener. Daily supply of tea bags and coffee powder. More can be self collected at the reception. Big bottles of branded quality liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner, face and hand wash, and body lotion. Disposable shaver, comb, cotton buds, etc available for self collection in the lobby. Hanger dryers in the balcony. Toilet bowl comes with Japanese standard of features. Separate bins for combustible, plastic and discarded food. And umbrellas for loan. Suggestions for improvement: Bedside lamps will be very useful. Towel rail or hooks should be provided outside the bathroom. The one and only tiny towel rail is in the shower area and it gets wet. The black spot at the ground entrance to the lift looks like a chewing gum stucked there for a long time. I am sure it can be easily removed. The lift carpet could be better fitted. Overall: This is a small but a great serviced apartment hotel which is located right next to the bus andl train station that can transport you anywhere. It is clean and well maintained. Staff are very friendly and helpful, even though they communicate mainly in Japanese.
