Don’t be fooled by the star rating of this hotel. We stayed for six nights and had an excellent time the staff without exception are very friendly and attentive. They readily share their knowledge of the local area when asked to do so giving little hints and tips that makes things just a little bit easier.    The location of the hotel is fantastic a 10 minute walk to the shore of the lake, and a five minute walk to the main train station, making trips Into Milan and the surrounding area very easy.   The room was spacious with an excellent bathroom. We stayed on the ground floor and had a small patio area.  Pillows are a pet passion of mine and very much subject to personal preference. For me they were slightly firmer than I would like, but I am absolutely nitpicking here because I slept soundly! The bed was large and the room had a kettle.   No fridge in the room but the bar is open 24 hours and we were able to get milk to make tea and coffee in the room.   The breakfast is has a wide variety and an impressive machine where you can boil eggs jut to your personal taste. My husband would suggest an ice water bowl to help cool the eggs down  again very nitpicking here.   Wi-Fi was feee and excellent. We had a hire care and although there is no onsite parking, you can pull up at the front of the hotel to drop luggage and we always manage to get on street parking which you paid for by the hour within easy, walking distance of the hotel, only ever a couple of minutes away. Over the years, we've decided that being close to a city's main rail station is a major criterion of choosing where to stay. We chose this hotel after noting it was well-rated AND close to San Giovanni Station (SGS) for Como. The online map showed that we only needed to use the walkway at the front of SGS, and then turn left at Via Borgo to get Borgo Antico. What the map didn't show was (1) that walkway is several stair steps that require carrying your luggage and (2) the sidewalks on Via Borgo are narrow cobblestones -- a combination that made getting to this place quite difficult with wheeled luggage. We were able to roll our luggage in the street only because there wasn't a lot of traffic. Once we arrived at Borgo Antico, and went to our room in a small elevator, we found the lodging quite nice.  Our room had a half-bath (including bidet), towel heaters, phone, hair dryer, tea kettle, and TV with 20 channels -- none in English. It was clean, quiet, and well-maintained. Staff was welcoming & professional. Free amenities included wifi and a breakfast buffet. This place was within walking distance of the city's downtown and the boat docks of Lake Como, and thus convenient to the charms of this place. A variety of restaurants were on the street.  An unexpected perk of this hotel is that it is just a few blocks from the laundromat Lavaderia Lario, open from 7am to 10pm. If, like us, you're spending a few weeks of travel, this can be a real blessing.  Borgo Antico isn't super-fancy, but the combination of price, amenities, and location make it a good choice for this city.

Fantastic hotel not far from Como Lake and restaurants and shopping. Very welcoming staff. Clean and quiet. Breakfast was fantastic with coffee to order and full breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
