For a old building the owners have done a great job of restoration with some modern touches that do not take away from the period style. The beds were comfortable, the room spacious, the TV selection limited (but frankly I didn't care.), Wi-Fi quick. The price is about the same as the chain hotels in the town. I would have liked more water pressure in the shower but you are out in the middle of nowhere with a water tower. The breakfast, although limited, is free and buffet style. Everything we had was tasty. I understand the second story rooms that face the street have balconies. It's noisy during the day but quiets down at night. We would stay here again.

If you're looking for an accurate historic hotel, this is a great stay. Rooms are pristine, sheets crisp, ample parking. The bathroom even had historic features and Penny tile that looked original. I was however disappointed by the FREE breakfast that came with it. The girl serving breakfast didn't seem to appreciate mornings and the breakfast selections were sparce. The crust-less quiche was very good, but a very small portion. My hubby ordered the breakfast burrito that was moderate. Coffee bar had no liquid creamer. Was not impressed with the breakfast at all.

Extremely warm, caring service. The room was very clean and nice - especially for the price! So much history at this historic hotel. Very much worth a stop. Be sure to eat at the hotel restaurant. The food is incredible. Loved my whole stay, and will definitely come back!

Old hotel with history, I like old hotels with character but this hotel has some concern to me. First the hotel doors are closed and locked with no on duty clerks until 4PM. The room we had was in good shape except the windows were in dire need of scraping and painting. The lobby area hasten my opinion way to many items in it. Items of interest but really looks cluttered. The restaurant is only open certain days. Breakfast which was included n the rate was self serve. Hot eggs dishes were available but very limited. Dinner menu fairly basic. Has stayed here before but probably not again. Too bad.

I made special plans so I could stay the night at the Hotel and I was not disappointed. I love historic hotels and there are not a ton of small town America downtown hotels left. There is plenty online about its history so I won’t go into that. I arrived and parked on the street right in front of the hotel. The lobby is well done and they have local artisan crafts for sale as well as classic decor. They have an elevator as well as a nice staircase for the 3 story property. I had a room on the third floor that faced the Main Street. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. They use actual keys for the rooms and it comes with a fresh homemade breakfast in the morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Now, historic hotels are not for everyone but I love the quirks. The floors creak, the train comes by several times a night and you can look out the window and see the lights from the 1916 Luna Theatre. There are thick curtains that shield the light but I loved the ambiance of it. The restaurant and saloon that is in the building is excellent as well.

We stopped here as we were traveling from Oklahoma to Colorado. The hotel was really calm and quiet. We had a reservation for dinner Friday night and enjoyed the dinner and drinks. They have very few king rooms which we prefer. The queen was fine . We would stop there again.

I consider myself really picky when it comes to hotels, but the Hotel Eklund really surprised me with how comfortable our stay was. They do all of the essentials well: soft beds, arctic-blast air conditioning, and very hot water with tons of water pressure. The restaurant was solid, and especially the homemade pie with ice cream for dessert. A very comfortable, unique place to stay.

Highly recommend. Great old west charm. We stayed on the second floor with the balcony and enjoyed sitting there in the evening. The staff are friendly, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and restaurant was open for dinner and the local beef hamburger was excellent. Clayton Lake is nearby with Cretaceous dinosaur tracks.

Town depressed but old / historic hotel had optimistic atmosphere with faded elegance and style nicely recollecting an honoring grander days. -- good staff, easy-check-in. Relieved to see an elevator. Rooms decorated in traditional manner, balcony overlooking deserted / very low traffc main street a few hunderd yards from tracks with occasional freight roaring through ... all together evoked a kind of nostalgia tinged with regret. Diuning open only a couple of days of week. Good beds & pillows, climate good, Very nice breakfast. Seemed like a depressed community with only one restauarnt (The Wild Horse, home-style, relaxed, half-full with apparent locals or relaxed travellers)
