Town depressed but old / historic hotel had optimistic atmosphere with faded elegance and style nicely recollecting an honoring grander days. -- good staff, easy-check-in. Relieved to see an elevator. Rooms decorated in traditional manner, balcony overlooking deserted / very low traffc main street a few hunderd yards from tracks with occasional freight roaring through ... all together evoked a kind of nostalgia tinged with regret. Diuning open only a couple of days of week. Good beds & pillows, climate good, Very nice breakfast. Seemed like a depressed community with only one restauarnt (The Wild Horse, home-style, relaxed, half-full with apparent locals or relaxed travellers)
