Having not stayed here for many decades now I was hoping for better. It didn’t start well at reception when asking about the offer of papers in a “privilege” room I was told .. “yeah but you gottta pay for them”! An hour or so later I found the booking confirmation which clearly said papers included with a privilege room. A second visit to reception produced a comment along the lines of “I don’t know anything about that” accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders. Not a good start. I was also surprised that there was no hotel services book in room therefore no info on health club, meal times, operation of coffee machine etc. Even the very basic hotels usually have these. A question on this produced the same line of not knowing anything about it! The room wasn’t anywhere near the standard suggested and was extremely tired and not particularly clean with dusty areas all over. Windows were old fashioned aluminium which meant they needed to be closed due to the A20 nearby. This meant they were dripping with condensation in the morning! One of the bedside light switches was broken and was fixed after reporting, unlike the toilet roll holder that was also broken buy never got fixed! The duvet supplied was far too warm for summer and I have no idea why the bed was so massive but it was quite comfortable. The bathroom was adequate, no more. All in all, I think that Premier Inn rooms are much better and an awful lot cheaper! On the good side... The young guy in bar was very helpful on many things, perhaps he should have been on reception? The restaurant food was good in the evening, breakfast simply OK. I just wish those waiting on wouldn't keep calling everyone 'guys'. Because the bar/lounge and restaurant were essentially the same room, the television on at one end does nothing for the restaurant guests apart from annoy them! But the Health club and were pool fine!

This is the only hotel I will stay in when I am in the area. Excellent staff, clean and very comfortable. It is directly opposite the services so you can literally walk out of the door and into the door of the services. The rooms are very cozy and clean.

We went for a special birthday afternoon tea as a group and were very disappointed with the experience. 1. Table not set up/ready when we arrived, and the tables allocated were just not enough for the size of the group so we had to get another table added. Our group included a number of older ladies who weren't able to stand for long periods but they had to wait at least 15 minutes. We weren't early - the table should have been ready and big enough for our group. 2. Dietary requirements were wrong. We confirmed requirements THREE times before the day as one of our party has severe intolerances. The hotel got it wrong. This is simply unacceptable. 3. Three of our party were vegetarian and simply got less food. No alternatives to the meat treats (pigs in blankets and sausage rolls. No mince pies). For a festive menu that's simply not good enough. It's not hard to do, just needs a little bit of effort and planning. Also, the vegetarians were charged the same but got far less food. How is that reasonable? 4. Portions were incorrect. The set up was one 'tier' of sandwiches and cakes between two. Two of the tiers only had enough sandwiches for one person and we had to ask for more. Others didn't have the correct portions of desserts. As noted above, the vegetarians just got less of everything. 5. Dirty cups - we had to ask for replacements and one person didn't get a cup at all. 6. Lack of cutlery - no spoons for the puddings, etc. It's appalling that a hotel can't get the basics right. This experience left a rant bad taste in our mouths!

Lovely, cosy room, in a clean, comfortable house, in a safe cul de sac. Pin door entry, so very secure. Thoroughly enjoyed!!

Just returned home from a Christmas break at the Chilston Park Hotel. This is our 4th visit in the past year and our experience is always superb. The Reynolds's room is fantastic, located in the mews section of the hotel and ideally placed for those of us with dogs (which usually for a hotel are treated as special guests). We ate all our meals in the hotel and found the food to be fantastic and the service from Matt and his team exemplary. The reason we keep returning to this hotel is the staff. As always they couldn't do enough for us and it's the extra touches that make the difference. Be it the welcome message and sweets in the room on arrival, every request (no matter how obscure) being actioned straight away or just the fact that the staff are efficient and friendly and know how to make returning guests feel special. We must mention one fabulous staff member who went above and beyond during our break. Dan on the front desk was outstanding! He was polite, friendly , efficient with a (and I quote) ” I can make that happen” attitude. Once again we enjoyed it so much we have already booked our next 2 day stay in February. Can't wait to come back. Highly recommend, thank you. Sean & Charlie Barber
