Ibis Bucharest Politehnica

Bucharest|1.77km from Complex Comercial Sibiu
I went to Bucharest for one conference, and stayed the entire month until the second conference. And then I stayed another month because everything fit together so nicely with the room, the breakfast and the dinner. I had looked into another ibis, more center city so I could walk to more touristy places, but I was very happy being able to do most everything I needed to do on foot or by bus. An occasional Uber to AFI Cotroceni filled in the gaps. The nearby grocery store was bigger, and the closest Post Office was nicer than those in other areas I have stayed in. As many others have mentioned, the staff was very personable. Their numbers were fairly small which meant I had the chance to interact with each over the ensuing weeks. Not a bad apple in the entire bunch! In fact I left with two new Facebook friends! The hotel is large but not the largest Acoor property I have stayed in, and overtime several tour groups visited for evening dinner and morning breakfast. As an American, my favorite part of traveling is to mingle and interact with persons from different countries with different languages. It was very interesting meeting people from Kyiv, several groups from Spain, and even a tour bus of Asian adults. There was an Erasmus group of students, I learned later apparently from Greece, and models from a Romanian reality Tv series. Building the Ibis next-door to Politechnia was an amazing decision. While I have no connection to the school, I did occasionally walk up and down the flower garden to take in the sights, and to get in some exercise that I otherwise would have gotten doing touristy things in old town. The kitchen restaurant was an amazing room, and I wound up spending the better part of an hour and a half a day there, for breakfast and back for dinner. It is an ibis so the furniture was a little quirky, but I found ways to keep my ailing back very comfortable. My being gluten and lactose intolerant, the staff was very aware, and despite the fact that I brought my own bread which can be a little tricky, they had plenty for me to choose from. Especially since I don't stray from very plain American/English menu items. Almost everyone spoke English, and those who did were quite fluent! I would not be surprised if some were also fluent in other European languages, especially what are known as the Romance languages. Perhaps even German! I had a quality time and I will return for the next conferences.

We stayed here as part of a package deal with Travelpedia for 2 nights while visiting the Peles & Bran Castles. We arrived late on the Friday night & check in was a bit confusing as we originally had 2 rooms booked for ourselves & a friend who had to cancel her trip. We had booked a double room, but they checked us into a twin room which sounded like it should have been for our friend instead. I asked to change the room, but the receptionist told me it was not possible as they were fully booked but I could as his colleague tomorrow to change the room, but I thought it wasn't worth it as we had only one more night in the Hotel. The room was clean & pretty basic with a large TV & toiletries, they had a mini bar with a few items available but crucially for us, no Coffee/Tea making facilities in the room which to be is quite a basic thing to have in most Hotels. As we had an early start in the morning, they provided us with a breakfast box which had a couple of ham& cheese sandwiches, a yoghurt, apple & a bottle of water. The Sunday morning, we had breakfast which was self-service & had a reasonable selection of items but only small sausages, scrambled eggs & quiche with potato croquettes for a hot breakfast. They did have a selection of cold meats, cheese, croissants etc. available with various Juices. The Hotel is an average place in the Business area of the city behind the Palace of parliament but it's at least a half hour walk to any entertainment area & no real operations to eat out close to the hotel. The Hotel restaurant closes around 8-30 at night which again is a bit frustrating as we had been out for the day & were looking to get a meal when we returned. Overall impression is average hotel in a poor location as a Tourist & would suggest getting a hotel closer to the Old Town for better options to dine out.

The hotel is very good, the location is also OK, because only stayed for one day, did not pay attention to whether there is parking lot, breakfast in the local, personal favorite flavor, do not make reference. 😊😊

The welcoming was warm and cheerful. as we arrived at around 3ish in the morning we were family of 7 with 2younger kids 4 and 6. The apartment was spacious enough to accommodate large families. We booked 2rooms and allocated separately which is doable. We were delighted and had a feeling of good sleep on a bed in masters bedrooms. although the matress in the living room were keep on toring apart in (14,11) both rooms. After a few days we have found the heater weren’t working and did ask twice for assistance to fixing it am not sure it hasnt been done until we checked out. Our stay could have been great if the reception incharge where not “sushing” the kids since we were passing the corridors it was an uncomfortable feeling throughout our stay. As we feel we werent home away from home it feels akward passing accross the corridors so i did ask and try to move our rooms closer which also wasn’t successful. my only suggestion would be, put an age bracket of the kids on the advertising to set our expectations before making a booking rather than “family friendly” Nonetheless they were helpful indeed and cleanliness and the location were superb!

Orhideea Residence & Spa

We stayed for three nights 17th-20th March. This was unfortunately at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic in Romania and across the world. Obviously this meant that circumstances weren’t quite ‘normal’. Despite this, the hotel staff were really accommodating and calm. We were sadly informed by the British Embassy on our first day that we should self-isolate so we naturally spent a lot of time in the hotel. Despite the lack of guests and the closure of some facilities such as the spa, the hotel did their best to make our stay feel as normal as possible e.g. putting on breakfast and delivering this to our room and allowing us to check out later without charge as we had an evening flight. The room we stayed in was very spacious and had an amazing view of the city. We will be returning to Bucharest once the Coronavirus travel ban is over and we have said that we will stay at the Orhideea Residence and Spa again.
