Ulu Segara Luxury Suites & Villas

Nusa Dua Bali|1.02km from Gunung Payung Cultural Park
Let´s start with the positives. The view, pool and beach are amazing, and the hotel is in a very calm area of Nusa Dua. Personnel in the restaurant and reception are kind and courteous. Breakfast is fair but not up to standard compared to other hotels in Bali. Then let´s start slowly with the negatives. Given that the hotel is built 2014 it is in desperate need of maintenance, both the exterior and interior are quite deteriorated. The rooms are in fair condition but not close to 5-star quality, showing signs of black mold from the AC-unit, kitchen tap showing signs of rust and need of replacement, shower doors not being replaced etc. Overall, there is a significant lack of maintenance which is concerning. If you are unlucky (which we were) you stand the risk of being awaken in the middle of the night by a rat on the kitchen table. After quite a lot of commotion, the rat relocated itself from the room via the air vent of the AC, which is possible at Ulu Segara since the air vent is not fully sealed with screws (at least not in our room). The night reception/bellboy did their outmost and relocated us to another room and should not be faulted at all. Especially since this was the night to Nyepi and a busy day for the hotel, unfortunately for us this also meant that we were unable to change hotel (which we definitely would have done). Given that we travel 80-100 days per year we do understand that on occasion unfortunate things happen which needs to be addressed by hotel management. First of all, no one except the bellboy even apologized for this rather uncommon inconvenience at a 5-star hotel and no one contacted us the day after to discuss the incident. We raised the issue ourselves and also asked how the hotel plans to handle the issue so that it can be avoided in the future (for example check the screws on the AC vent and contact a pest control company to address this issue) and that we also need to discuss how to address this inconvenience. Unfortunately, the management (Director of Sales) at Ulu Segara was completely indifferent and refused to discuss this in person with us. As per our request we had a chat on telephone upon check-out with the Director of Sales (he did not show up in person) regarding these raised issues. Needless to say he was still completely indifferent, which in combination with being rude and unpleasant is a surprisingly bad combination for someone working as a Sales Director. Bali is a fantastic island, the people are in general super friendly and we will definitely go back. However, we will never go back to this hotel again and would highly recommend everyone to stay elsewhere! Avoid Ulu Segara at all cost!

The Ritz-Carlton Bali

Nusa Dua Bali|1.69km from Gunung Payung Cultural Park
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali is a beautiful resort with a lot to offer. The beach is nice and relaxing. The serving staff on the beach was quick and friendly! The food and service at the breezes restaurant was good. All of the staff was very welcoming and polite. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options. I love the noodle/soup station. The waffles and pancakes were sweet. The fresh juice options were delicious. I loved how they were willing to bring anything we order to tables. The Breezes lounge staff were very polite and friendly! The fish dishes were scrumptious. We also enjoyed hookah there for a couple of nights and they used fresh fruit which was nice! The hotel provided us with an adapter, for our chargers, which was very helpful. We didn’t use the buggy pickup and drop off service much as our Villa was in walking distance to everything. The main pools were at a good temperature same as the one in our Villa. I really appreciated that they allowed us to check in early as our room was available. The high and low tides of the beach were great! We were able to enjoy both! Although I had a great stay, there are a few things that were under high praise. 1. We booked the pavilion villa with a private pool. The private Villa pool we were assigned was not actually private. We shared the pool with one other villa. So that was a huge disappointment since it was advertised as a private pool. 2. I understand it is a nice resort but I felt the prices for restaurants were tad bit high. Many things were overpriced. 3. At the Beach Grill, you cannot receive ice water you have to purchase their bottled water products. Also, we were very disappointed in the surf and turf buffet offered on Thursdays. It was advertised as a full feast of surf and turf however, you were given the option of choosing one main entree. There was hardly a variety of food options and the limited Buffett sides, as it was advertised as a beach Bbq buffet. They were very accommodating to the grill the few cold shrimps we chose off the buffet. Besides these things, my stay was very relaxing and fun! I enjoyed my vacation as it wasn’t first time to visit Bali but this resort.

Overall a decent stay but the entrance into the villa is not easy to get to due to bumpy road. Nice private pool.

The location is a bit biased, surrounded by farmer's villages. It is a relatively hidden villa club. There are only seven rooms in total. We live in rooms with private swimming pools. The pool is better than the sea. The breakfast is very delicious. If you don't want to Lively and clean two-person space, this is a good choice.

Lovely spacious oceanfront room. Beautiful views of the ocean. Quiet and peaceful property. The staff is outstanding, always smiling and catering to your needs. Best drivers to/from the resort. Breakfast, in particular, was best that we have experienced at any resort. Administration was flawless and prompt. When requesting transport on the property we never had to wait more than 2 minutes. We'll worth the experience. Will love to stay here again on our next visit.

I celebrated Christmas at the Apurva Kempinski and it was amazing! The Full Board package was worth it but it didn’t cover the Christmas brunches, etc which is what I was hoping for but being in a suite came with complimentary afternoon tea and evening cocktails which was really nice. The service is amazing and the staff are friendly and attentive. I’ll definitely be returning in the future

Introduction to Bali

Bali, an Indonesian island known for its forested volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, and stunning beaches, is the country's most famous tourist destination. Filled with ancient temples, rich arts and crafts, and a vibrant nightlife, Bali offers a kaleidoscopic blend of natural beauty and cultural depth.

Tips for Travelling to Bali

Bali's main international gateway is Ngurah Rai International Airport, located near the capital city, Denpasar. Travelers can explore Bali through taxis, local buses, bicycles, motorbikes, or even hired cars.

The official currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Most hotels and restaurants accept credit cards, but having some cash on hand for local markets and smaller venues is recommended. Indonesian is the official language, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

As for visas, many nationalities can enter Indonesia visa-free for up to 30 days, but it's best to check before your journey.

Popular Attractions in Bali

Bali offers a wealth of cultural and natural attractions. Explore the ancient temples of Tanah Lot and Uluwatu, or immerse yourself in the artistic heritage of Ubud, Bali's cultural heart. Visit the Tegalalang Rice Terraces and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary for unique experiences.

Bali's beaches are equally enticing, with Kuta Beach, Seminyak Beach, and Nusa Dua Beach offering vibrant beach life. Surfing enthusiasts will love the waves at Uluwatu and Canggu.

Weather, Best Time to Visit, and What to Wear

Bali enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures fairly consistent year-round. The best times to visit are during the dry season, from April to October. Bring lightweight, breathable clothing, a hat, and sunscreen to protect from the sun. Also, remember to dress modestly when visiting temples.
