MansionHaus

When visiting Goa people usually prefer a beach side resort however we chose differently. We came across Mansion Haus on their Instagram page and were really intrigued to experience a stay here ourself. I would begin with Thanking Kedar, Prema, Nilesh and Chef John who made our trip worthwhile. They are the most courteous management we have came across in our stays across India. Mansion Haus is a small but luxurious property located in a very quiet and peaceful area. We booked our room via MMT however they take direct reservations also. However as against our anticipation we got a better rate from MMT and when we spoke with the reservation team if they could match the same or offer anything better, they turned down our request stating that there is a 60% occupancy. (Surprisingly we were the only occupants during our stay). FACILITIES: they have 9 rooms. Some of which have a private plunge pool. The common pool is also big. They have a reception, eading or waiting room, study room, a conference room, community dining hall, pvt dining area and open dining area. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are clean. They offer a minibar which contains beer, whiskey, vodka and gin. They also have a good collection of teas and coffee which can be brewed using an electric kettle or French press. AMBIENCE: the property is surrounded with palm trees. Even though they are located on a busy road you can hardly hear any traffic at any point of time. The villa has a very unique Spanish look and feel. Beautifully decorated and well maintained by the staff. COURTESY: the staff is very polite and welcoming. They greet you with a smile every time they see you. They take into consideration all your requests and try to fulfil them to the best of their ability. For Example, Mr. Kedar was very kind to arrange rental bikes for us and he even made possible a last minute table reservation at Thalassa. Since we had a late flight he also made us a list of places we could visit on our last day. Chef John was thoughtful enough to do a research on us and find out that we are chefs too. He asked us for our dietary preference and prepared us an an extraordinary set of breakfast which we enjoyed to the last bite. Same ways Prema was the sweetest and kindest help we could ask for. She was always available when we needed any room service or extra essentials in the room. FOOD & BEVERAGE: They serve you welcome drinks, tea or coffee while you wait for your room to be ready. Since our stay was very short we could only manage to have breakfast at the property. Chef John was very thorough about his works and prepared us a world class breakfast. He prepared menemen, cilbir, Goan pork sausages on poi and local grilled bananas topped with orange cream & caramel for us on day one. Nilesh served us with tea and coffee. On day 2 we had omelette, shakshuka and fresh juice.
The Westin Goa

I recently stayed at The Westin Goa from November 3rd to November 7th with high expectations, but my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Despite paying over INR 25,000 per night, the level of service and hygiene I encountered was far below what I would expect from a 5-star Marriott property. From day one, my room (2025) had a malfunctioning door lock, forcing me to repeatedly visit the reception to have my key card reactivated. Despite reporting the issue multiple times, the front desk staff were dismissive and acted as if I was inconveniencing them. Only on the fourth day, after finding a technician nearby, was it confirmed that the lock needed a lengthy repair – an issue that could have been resolved much sooner with a bit of care and attention. On the same day, I found a cockroach in my bathroom. For a premium hotel, encountering such hygiene issues is both shocking and unacceptable. While I reported this to the reception and an executive officer, the only response was a vague assurance of pest control. The breakfast experience was equally disappointing. I had to wait 20-25 minutes each morning for a seat, only to find the same limited menu every day, without any variety. This isn’t what one would expect from a high-end property. As a Bonvoy member, I’m deeply disappointed. The lack of attention to basic service, cleanliness, and guest comfort was appalling. I expected a much higher standard from Marriott, and this experience has seriously made me question my loyalty to the brand. For anyone considering a stay at The Westin Goa, be cautious – unfortunately, it’s not living up to the Marriott reputation.
