This was my 1st time ever at a youth hostel. I loved it. Felt safe had a good nights sleep. The food was lovely what I ordered. It was very relaxed. Very clean. I was amazed at how good it was. An I got a really good deal. I was in a six bed female dorm. There are private rooms also available. An you can go self catering.

I live in West Cumbria but decided to book an overnight stay as I was walking in the area. I didn't want to remove a star as I had a great stay, the only negative was that the outside of the building looks a bit shabby, could do with a paint, as it doesn't give a good first impression. However, loads of good points. Plenty of parking. Lots of space and different spaces for guests to sit. Historic building. Good clean kitchen facilities. Really good reception, sells Dizzy Blonde beer on draft! Cake and snacks available. Really good breakfast, well cooked with proper bacon and sausage. Clean and tidy. Comfy beds. Outside seating areas and space for kids to play. Good base for walking. Comfy and clean beds. I think it was a bargain, I booked a bed in a shared dorm with full breakfast on a special deal and it was just over £20. Would I recommend, yes! Thank you for a great stay!

Langdale is a stunning hostel, we loved it. The desk staff were great, friendly and helpful and knew the local area well. It is a short walk down to Rydal Water with the accompanying access to the bus network, Ambleside and Windermere. Grasmere village is a slightly longer walk away. It is a large hostel with a long history. It is next to an arboretum and we saw deer in the grounds. We would very happily go again.

Mixed feelings as is usual with the YHA. The location is good, the staff were nice, but often difficult to find, and their knowledge of the surroundings was very limited. Upon check-in the room was freezing. All the Windows were open and the radiators off...and they would have remained so late into the night had I not adjusted such. The WiFi, as is common in the YHA, only worked downstairs. The kitchen, however, was good, and there is a drying room and nice common areas along with a pleasant green outside. I think the property needs to prioritise (actually the YHA as a whole) the necessities, i.e., good WiFi, heated abodes during cold months and knowledge of the surroundings. Why not pin up a bus schedule for example?

Have visited many times when able to book a bed as it's popular. Walking from the doorstep in all directions from it's hilltop location adds to the sence of adventure of being in the Lake District. The hubs of Grasmere and Elterwater provide relief from the hillwalking exertions. The hostel is spacious and characterful with all of the facilities conducive to a walking holiday. Staff are consistently friendly, polite and helpful. Be prepared for hills!

Chatting with another guest at breakfast - we would both happily stay longer, alas our schedules did not allow. Substantial dining and lounge areas so plenty of people around in the evenings. No-where in walking distance, so everyone is in.

A fantastic place to stay. Staff were absolutely fantastic especially Christina and Niamh. Many thanks to both of them for the great service and for the great happy attitude they had. nothing was to much bother for them and I hope to see them both still there when I come back on October. The meals at this hostel would rival a 5 star hotel. Thanks to all staff there.
