Haven't been here for years. Same old battered furniture, dark surroundings, like a blast from the past! It's in need of modernisation badly! Saying that nice pint of John Smiths bitter. No one eating and very quiet for a Sunday afternoon perhaps the weather affected it!

Visited for a pre Chris**as meal with friends but very disappointed with the food and welcome we received. Majority of us ordered a beef or turkey dinner at a cost of £16.95. Only two small slices of meat on them Yorkshire puddings on the beef dinners were hard and overcooked. Cauliflower and peas were hard. Two roast potatoes and two boiled potatoes which were fine, carrots and parsnips also fine. Some also had sprouts which they said were hard but I asked for mine without. Not a lot on it for the price although the gravy was tasty. Biggest problem was we asked when booking if we could have just mains as it was advertised as a 3 course meal and they said just mains was fine. However when it came to paying they wanted to charge us £27.50 as it wasn’t their fault we only wanted mains!! After one of our ladies explained that when she booked it they had said we could just have mains the waitress called the manager and he grudgingly agreed to just charge us £16.95. Not the best experience of a Chris**as night out and definitely wouldn’t go again. Much nicer food and friendly staff at other venues in Aberdare.

Booked a meal for eleven people for my mother's birthday. We were asked both to order in advance and pay a deposit. When we arrived we were told that sole of the things we'd preordered and paid a deposit for wouldn't be available! We could have been told this in advance. It ruined the experience. The food itself when it arrived wasn't great either. I think we would have had a better meal in Wetherspoons. I'll certainly never set foot in there again, I urge you to avoid this place and find somewhere else to eat.

Sunny day called for a drink outside and would have had lunch but the garden has been uncared for, it was dirty with litter in between the table slats and all overgrown with rusty heaters etc , decided to leave. Was much better in recent time appreciate hospitality is hard but clearing litter and washing steps down won’t cost much, very offputting

I went with family for a birthday meal. The staff were all very friendly. It was all clean. I thought the menu was limited for a restaurant, we all had different meals, the starters were small and appeared to be cooked from frozen, but nice enough. The mains, the homemade pies looked amazing and were delicious by family members who had them. The mixed grill was a bit of a let down, the gammon was tiny, I’ve had more bacon in a sandwich. We were asked how we like the steak cooked, we asked for medium rare but it came out well done, judging by other reviews, this seems to be normal, again the steak was quite small, the lamb chop and sausage was nice enough. The food was fairly priced. Overall it was a nice meal and nice a**osphere but it wasn’t anything special either.

Have been here several times in the past and the experience has always been very good. However, I went there yesterday for a family birthday meal and it appeared that a great deal had changed from my last visit. Because we were over ten people I had to pre-order and pay a deposit of £10 per person. I did this a week before the meal. When we arrived we were told that there were no herb potatoes. I think it is reasonable to expect that someone from the pub would have contacted me beforehand to inform me. But no. In addition, my wife ordered broccoli bake. When it arrived it was not what she expected of a broccoli bake. Also, I ordered a drink and was told that I would have to go to the bar b ecause the staff were too busy to serve drinks at the table. There were two people behind the bar doing absolutely nothing and the pub was not full. Ridiculous. When we left, it appeared that they gave us a small discount although no one apologised or explained that there was a discount. I will not be going back here and I certyainly will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Had Sunday roast with family. Was able to order a vegan dinner with vegan sausages and gravy; great to see this, though vegan dinner comes without any Yorkshire pudding which is disappointing as they are not tricky to make. Roast potatoes were tough, broccoli undercooked, and no seasoning on the veg but thankfully salt and pepper provided at table to add some flavour. Not a single vegan desert option... Not even a cake sadly. Can't say I'd likely return, but it's alright of you're stuck.

Had a family /friends get together for a 21st birthday celebration and not 1 bad meal from over 30 dishes. I heard they had a new chef and couldn't you tell. Hope they keep it up as this pub/restaurant is the last decent 1 trading in town. Excellent service by all staff to be fair.
