The narrator told us that in 1958, in order to solve the water consumption and cultivated land use of 80,000 agricultural people in the lower reaches of the Huangyang River, the Huangyang River Reservoir was built not far from the right side of the Tiantishan Grottoes. The Tiantishan Grottoes site happened to be located in the reservoir flooded area. In order not to flood the statues and murals in the grottoes, a large number of statues and murals in the grottoes were removed and moved to the Gansu Provincial Museum. During several handling, the damage was serious and some of the statues and murals became unrecognizable. In 2006, it was restored by the Cultural Relics Bureau and returned to the original site of Wuwei.
