What travelers say:

The name Kelamix is named after the group of pottery workers occupying the entire area on the banks of the Eredanos River. The walls of Athens, built by the famous political and military temistoklos in the fifth century BC, were divided into two parts, one in the inner kayramix and the other in the outer kayramix. The walls had two doors: the Diploon Gate and the Holy Gate, which connected the outer end of the two most important parade avenues of Athens, Panasinaicos and the Holy Avenue, respectively, while the Holy Avenue led to the Iliussian region and the Panasinaicos Avenue to the Acropolis. Outside the walls, the main direction along the two roads is the city's official cemetery, which dates from the ninth century BC to the late Roman era.
