Small temple on the way to Muro-ji

Onodera Temple is a small temple located right on the road from Muroguchi-ono train station to Muro-ji temple. The highlight is a 4 meter tall Buddha image carving, carved into the mountainside, loc...

Onodera / Uda City, Nara Prefecture [Walking] Visit the old temple famous for the Makai Buddha and walk along the Uda River

    Original Text

Yoryuzan Onodera is a temple of the Shingon sect Murouji school located in Murou Ono, Uda City, Nara Prefecture. It is said that Kukai built the hall in 824 and called it 'jisonin miroku Ji Temple' in 824 at the yakugyoja reiho fudasho, which is said to have been founded by yakukokaku in 681. It is also known that there is a magaibutsu. On January 5, 2022, we had lunch at Tomato & Onion Nara Haibara. ...

Makai Buddha on the other side

    Original Text

Onodera has a magnificent weeping cherry blossom. It's not a very big temple, but the cliff Buddha is painted on the rock on the opposite bank of the river, but I couldn't see it well because the picture was not clear.

It is a temple that corresponds to the "West Gate" of the Shingon sect Murouji school.

    Original Text

The huge "Makai Buddha" on the opposite bank, which separates the river, is more famous than the temple itself. It seems that it is said that the actor opened. The Maitreya Bodhisattva of this Makai Buddha is really high 13.8m and is one of the largest in my country. It seems to have been engraved in the Kamakura period. Also, this place is famous as a "Weeping Sakura Temple", and the season when the cherry blossoms bloom is the best (I have been there once). This time, I was overwhelmed by the splendor of the Makai Buddha, which was colored in autumn leaves, not cherry blossoms.

the makaibutsu is on the other side of the river.

    Original Text

It is in front of Murou Onoguchi Station on the way back from Murouji Temple. It seems that you pay an entrance fee of 300 yen to enter the temple, but I didn't enter, but the Makaibutsu looks like a river crossing. However, it is not clear whether it is weathered or the carving is thinner.
