The Shen Garden is the romantic garden location immortalized by the Song Dynasty poet Lu You in his famous tragic poem, "The Hairpin of the Golden Phoenix", addressed to his star-crossed lover (and ex-wife), Tang Wan. When people come to the Shen Garden, they do so not only to appreciate the classically elegant and historic garden but also to reflect on the burning love Lu You felt for his wife. During daylight hours, visitors come to marvel at the garden's many beautiful buildings. Once night falls, however, Shen Garden's Shaoxing Pavilion hosts all sorts of not-to-be-missed performances.
