Meishan Temple

Meishan Temple is located in the northeast of Shiqiao Town, in Huangbian Village, southeast of the overpass of Yingbin Road, Panyu. It was built in the first year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1506) and has a history of more than 500 years. It was built by Su Xuan, a descendant of Su Dongpo. In order to cherish the memory of this famous writer, painter and poet in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was named after Su Dongpo originally borrowed from Meizhou Meishan (now Meishan City, Sichuan Province), hence the name Meishan Temple. Meishan Temple is a Buddhist holy place in Panyu. However, since the beginning of its construction, it has experienced vicissitudes and catastrophes. It was not until the early 1990s that the Daxiong Palace was renovated after receiving the enthusiastic donations from people from all walks of life and Hong Kong and Macao compatriots. The old banyan tree commemorating Su Dongpo is planted in the temple.
