Want to eat like a local? Don't miss out on these top Yangxi dishes and foodie spots.

When friends ask where I've been lately, I always say, "Back to 'nature'." This time, my destination was Yangxi—a small town in Yangjiang that sounds unfamiliar but holds countless surprises. There were no crowds of tourists, only soothing mountains, sea, and streams, and just the right temperature. ✓ New Town: Dongshan Zhuli Driving along winding country roads, a charming little town nestled amidst bamboo forests and valleys quietly appears. Here, there's no noisy tourist atmosphere, only the gentle murmur of flowing streams. The local village committee has spearheaded the construction of a number of trendy guesthouses, with white walls, gray tiles, and floor-to-ceiling windows, blending seamlessly with the green mountains. Some rooms offer views of the bamboo groves right outside the window. In the afternoon, sitting by the stream at a tea table, brewing a pot of local black tea with spring water, doing nothing but listening to the wind rustling through the bamboo and the water flowing over the stones. Dinner was in the village: a local free-range chicken and steamed freshly caught river seafood. The sweetness of the ingredients was straightforward and exhilarating—the beauty here is the kind that relaxes both the taste buds and the mind. ✓ Shaba Town: Bei'e Ridge. This is the highest point in the area. Walking up the well-maintained trail for about half an hour, a breathtaking, unobstructed coastline suddenly unfolds before your eyes! Shaba Bay, Moon Bay, Blue Robe Bay… the long coastline is like a turquoise ribbon, encircling the scattered islands and the distant windmills. Standing on the viewing platform, the sea breeze is strong, and all worries seem to be blown away. If you arrive at a leisurely evening, watching the sunset dye the sea golden and red, and the fishing boats dotting the harbor, you'll feel that the best reward of travel is often such a vast and peaceful moment. My two days in Yangxi were incredibly enriching. Unlike some popular destinations that rush to showcase everything, Yangxi requires you to slow down, explore different towns and bays, and unlock their wonders one by one: sipping tea in a valley, chasing the sunset on the beach, enjoying the freshest seafood in a fishing village, and stargazing from a guesthouse terrace… It offers a precious sense of "breathing"—just a two- or three-hour drive from Guangzhou and Shenzhen, yet it feels like stepping into another dimension of time and space. If you're tired of the same old Instagrammable spots and want to find a place to truly relax, wander, and experience the sincerity of nature, then Yangxi is quietly waiting for you. Shaba Bay

The setting sun cast its golden rays upon the mangrove forests of Hongguang Village. Several elderly oyster farmers sat by the bustling street, skillfully prying open oyster shells, the milky-white oyster meat gleaming enticingly in the light. The 7-meter-tall "Super Oyster" sculpture in front of the Oyster Museum shimmered with a warm glow in the winter sun. I walked around this behemoth, my hand tracing the texture of the simulated oyster shell; the cool, solid touch instantly brought the two-hundred-year history of oyster farming in Cheng Village vividly to life. Stepping into the Oyster Museum, a journey through time about Cheng Village oysters slowly unfolded. The six exhibition sections were richly illustrated, but the mangrove forest section touched me the most. As the lights dimmed and sound effects began, I felt as if I were truly standing on the mudflats that had nurtured countless delicious lives, the sounds of waves and seagulls filling the air, the ebb and flow of the tide before my eyes. At that moment, I suddenly understood—the deliciousness of Cheng Village oysters originates from this land jointly protected by people and the sea. Emerging from the Oyster Pavilion, the path to the mangrove egret viewing platform was bustling with activity. Narrow streets were lined with stalls, their vendors' calls echoing throughout. Fishing boats, recently docked, were unloading their catch; fishermen skillfully pried open oyster shells, the milky-white oyster meat still carrying the scent of the sea, before being quickly stuffed into bags by waiting customers. The air was filled with the distinctive salty and savory aroma of seafood, mingled with the fragrance of local fried snacks. Carrying this fresh memory, I continued my journey, climbing the steps to the mangrove egret viewing platform. The sight before me took my breath away. 15,000 acres of mangroves spread out under the setting sun, like a giant emerald set against the azure sea and sky. In the distance, oyster boats laden with their catch glided slowly across the water; closer, egrets began their return to their nests, their elegant forms tracing graceful arcs above the mangroves. A gentle sea breeze caressed my face, carrying the unique fresh scent of the mangroves. The tranquility of this moment blended wonderfully with the bustling market from moments before. Coinciding with the 4th Chengcun Oyster Food Culture Promotion Week, the village also hosted an Oyster King Competition and a food-themed market. The oysters, some larger than the palm of my hand, were astonishing, and visitors could sample a variety of creative ways to enjoy oysters at the market. The setting sun cast its last rays upon the mangroves. Looking back, the outline of the Oyster Pavilion faded into the twilight, while the mangroves, which had nurtured countless delicacies, continued to quietly guard this land. I know that the most delicious human touch of this winter has been etched into my memory.

If I had to describe Yangxi in one word, it would be "contrast." On one side, there's a bountiful and vibrant "Oyster Feast," and on the other, a secluded and elegant "Bamboo Forest Retreat." This weekend, I embarked on a profound journey from taste to spirit. ☑️ Thriving by the Sea, the Ultimate Oyster Experience I happened to be there during the 4th Chengcun Oyster Food Culture Week. The "Oyster Pavilion" in Hongguang Village was my first lesson, showcasing the wisdom of oyster farming in "China's Oyster Capital." But the real shock came from the Egret Viewing Platform. Before me stretched thousands of acres of mangrove wetlands, dotted with egrets, while underwater, the national geographical indication product—Chengcun oysters—was being nurtured. This sight instantly made me understand the meaning of "green mountains and clear waters are invaluable assets." 👉🏻At the "Selenium-Rich Science Popularization Hall," another health secret of Yangxi was revealed. It turns out the "longevity code" of this land is selenium. I immediately bought several bags of selenium-rich rice, ready to bring health home. 🍽️Dinner was the ultimate challenge for oyster enthusiasts. The smoky aroma of baked oyster rice, the warm comfort of oysters soaked in peppered rice broth, the plumpness of whole steamed oysters… each cooking method interpreted a different dimension of freshness. ☑️Climb high to gaze at the sea and witness the future. Ascending to the "Beierling Viewpoint," the view opens up dramatically. Before you lies the azure waters of Shaba Bay and a panoramic view of the town; behind you, a rainbow-colored corridor and a kite-flying station on the mountainside create a romantic, fairytale-like atmosphere. But the most breathtaking sight is the view of the sea: nearby, the deep-sea cages of the national-level marine ranching demonstration area resemble "blue granaries"; in the distance, the endless Three Gorges Shaba offshore wind farm stretches out, with hundreds of wind turbines forming a "sea forest." The symbiosis of clean energy and marine ranching paints a magnificent blueprint for a future of "strengthening the nation through the sea." ☑️Secluded in Bamboo Groves, Healing Streams Arriving at the "Dongshui Zhuli Resort Town" in Xinxu Town, I was greeted by a completely different world. Tens of thousands of acres of bamboo forest form a green sea, and the design of the elegant mountain-style guesthouses perfectly suited my taste. Surrounded by bamboo, every window offers a picturesque view. The newly built 11 bamboo raft-style waterfront platforms are perfect for taking photos; the babbling streams and swaying bamboo shadows make every step feel like walking through a painting. Here, I finally tasted the intangible cultural heritage delicacy I had been longing for—Old Duck and Bamboo Shoot Soup. Slow-cooked with local selenium-rich bamboo shoots and free-range old duck, the soup is clear yet rich in flavor. One sip, and the sweetness of the mountains and the mellowness of time melted in my mouth, the perfect ending to my journey. 🌟Travel Tips: 🚘Transportation Recommendation: The attractions are quite spread out; driving is recommended to freely explore the mountains, sea, and bamboo forests. ‼ Must-do experiences: Enjoy a full oyster feast in Cheng Village, watch a sunset over the sea at Bei'e Ridge, and sip a cup of tea by the Dongshui Creek. 👏🏻This journey is like simultaneously revealing two sides of Yangxi: one side is the abundance of the ocean's bounty and the grandeur of future technology; the other is the tranquility of bamboo forests and streams and the gentle warmth of traditional craftsmanship. It taught me that a true vacation is about indulging in the grandeur of mountains and seas while also finding peace and quiet in a secluded corner.

When you stand at the highest point of Shapa Town—Beieling, the scene before you is enough to leave you speechless. Here, not only is there a viewing platform overlooking the entire town and the sea and sky, but also a brightly colored "Rainbow Corridor" and a romantic kite station. You can hold a cup of coffee in your hands and quietly watch the sea breeze flutter the kites, as well as the rows of pure white "big windmills" on the distant sea surface. Those are the Yangjiang Shapa Offshore Wind Farm turbines in the Three Gorges area, a "forest at sea" made up of hundreds of wind turbines converting wind energy into clean electricity. And if you look closer, the round net cages faintly visible in the blue waves are part of the country's largest national marine ranch demonstration zone. Here, the dialogue between modern technology and the ancient ocean is so vivid—the "blue energy" of offshore wind power and the "blue granary" of the marine ranch coexist harmoniously, jointly sketching the future blueprint of Shapa’s rise by the sea. This is not just a spectacular visual journey, but also the most vivid experience of sustainable development.

In Yangxi County, Yangjiang, Guangdong, there's a town called Xinxu, and within Xinxu, there's Dongshui Village, a beautiful place where bamboo forests stretch as far as the eye can see. Many years ago, I visited Dongshui Village once. Back then, there was only one small restaurant in the village for lunch, and a small shop selling honey. This time, the village has changed dramatically. The river is still the same river, its water still clear and tranquil, but now there are bamboo chairs and other facilities along the water's edge. Visitors can sit on the bamboo chairs, drink tea, and play in the water—it's very pleasant and comfortable. The village also has a rural reception area where visitors can buy local bamboo products, as well as a café, a bamboo-themed teahouse, and even guesthouses and restaurants. The changes in Dongshui Village are truly remarkable. This place is perfect for a weekend getaway! I highly recommend it; find some time to visit! 📌Address: Dongshui Village, Xinxu Town, Yangxi County, Yangjiang, Guangdong ✅Accommodation: Yashan Homestay ☕️Dining: Yangxi Dongshui Impression Restaurant 🥢Recommended Dishes: White-cut chicken, bamboo shoots, snails, mutton, bamboo shoot soup, etc. The chicken is especially delicious. 🚴Transportation: Approximately 50 minutes drive from Yangxi Station

Come to Dongshui Zhuli, stay amidst this picturesque landscape, and enjoy a holiday surrounded by bamboo forests, streams, and delicious food!

Yangjiang, Guangdong, has become incredibly popular with people from Northeast China in recent years, attracting a large influx of migratory birds over the winter. This is thanks to Yangjiang's unique geographical environment and climate, which remain warm and spring-like even in winter. The government also provides strong support for investment. During our two days in Yangxi, we met tourists who had driven all the way from Hebei in their RV. They had heard that the Yangxi Oyster Festival had started again, and despite being in Heyuan, they drove 500 kilometers specifically to Yangxi to eat oysters. They raved about the oysters from Chengcun Town in Yangxi. Beierling Ridge in Shaba Bay, Yangxi, is the highest point in Shaba Bay, a great place to enjoy the sunrise and sunset over the mountains and sea. Shaba Bay is known as the Maldives of Yangxi, China, with its azure waters stretching to the horizon. It's said that you can also see windmills in the distance. Unfortunately, when we visited, the weather was foggy, and the windmills were hidden in the mist, which was a bit of a disappointment. My friend said that she had seen pink dolphins last time. And the pink dolphins of Dawanji are not just a myth! In recent years, the area has undergone government development and renovation, adding parking lots, a kite-flying area, and rest stops. Visitors can now conveniently park and enjoy the scenery from the seaside boardwalk and pavilions. A music restaurant has even been built. These improved facilities have attracted more visitors to Shaba Bay, and people from Northeast China are now a common sight. If you're planning a trip, besides enjoying the plump and fresh oysters, remember to check out Shaba Bay! 📌Address: Navigate to Shaba Bay, Yangxi, Yangjiang, Guangdong 🚴Public Transportation: Take the high-speed train to Yangxi Station and then take a taxi 🅿️Parking: Free ☕️Dining: Rest stop music restaurant 🏨Accommodation: You can stay in Yangxi County or Shaba Town

🌊 Who says Yangxi Shapa Bay is only about the sea? Drive up to this secret mountain top - Bei'e Ridge, where the mountains and sea embrace each other, stunningly beautiful beyond words! · When the first salty sea breeze lifts the mist on Bei'e Ridge, Shapa Bay slowly awakens with the tide's breath. This hidden pearl fishing port in Yangxi can be called "the last island utopia in western Guangdong"! The 3-kilometer crescent-shaped beach has not been eroded by commercialization. When the tide is low, a mirror-like jelly sea is exposed, and you can see schools of sardines shuttling around. In the morning, follow the Tanka fishermen to dig geoducks (tool rental is 10 yuan), and in the evening, watch the returning fishing boats cut through the sunset in the century-old coconut hammock. The slow pace has the power of healing. The seafood market is freshly caught and cooked (50 yuan per person for lobster, but there are few entertainment facilities, which is suitable for pure island fundamentalists. Short review: The natal beach for social phobia patients, unlocking high-level healing at a low cost! (Hidden copy: Chartering a boat to go out to sea to fish for squid is 200 yuan/boat, and the spoils can be made into sashimi)

齐塔德拉朱允炆The most loyal repeat customer, not only me, but my whole family is very satisfied, worth recommending! A good place for vacation and retirement! If you live there for a long time, it will be very comfortable to buy a small fan, and it will be uncomfortable to turn on the air conditioner all the time!
118***32Hailing Island, formerly known as Luozhou, is located in the northern waters of the South China Sea, southwest of Jiangcheng District, Yangjiang City, 20 kilometers from downtown. It is 23 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. Hailing Island has a total land area of 108.9 square kilometers, making it the largest island in Yangjiang City. Hailing Island boasts over ten scenic coastal tourist attractions, including the Taifu Temple, Linggu Temple, the Ancient Fort, the Zhenhai Pavilion, and the Guanyin Pavilion. In January 2001, Dajiao Bay on Hailing Island was designated a National 4A Scenic Area by the National Tourism Administration, becoming the only national-level coastal tourist area in Guangdong Province. As Guangdong's fourth-largest island, Hailing Island's tertiary industry is primarily based on tourism, making it one of the earliest areas in Guangdong to develop coastal tourism. After more than two decades of development and construction, the island has seen rapid economic and social growth, earning it numerous national honors, including National Blue Tourism Demonstration Base, China's Top Ten Treasure Islands, China's Top Ten Beautiful Islands, National Marine Park, National Mangrove Wetland Park, National Central Fishing Port, and National Underwater Archaeology Base. In 2016, it was included in the State Council's 13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Island Tourism Destination. In 2020, it was designated as one of the third batch of Guangdong Province's All-Area Tourism Demonstration Zones. In June 2023, Hailing Island was selected for inclusion in the national list of "Harmonious Islands."
M27***06Dajiaowan Beach, a five-star scenic area on Hailing Island, one of China's top ten most beautiful beaches, is much less crowded than the free side of Hailing Island due to its admission fee, resulting in a better experience. After swimming, you can rinse off, and the beach has many shells to collect. However, the park is still under renovation, so you have to backtrack to exit from the main entrance.
qw小妮子The Ocean Parade was lively and adorable, and the kids didn't want to leave. The park's paths were wide and not crowded. The Rainforest Restaurant was easy to find, the service was friendly, and we finished eating just in time for the next show – the timing was perfect.
M2w***4hThis is a treasure trove of a museum; I thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour. I went during the May Day holiday, and it wasn't too crowded. I imagine it would be better to go on a weekday when it's less crowded, and it's also a great place to bring kids. Behind the museum is the beach, which is quite unique.
