Beautiful Castle with Stunning Views — traveler post in Kolymvari

Beautiful Castle with Stunning Views

Very worth the small fee. Colin was our educator, and we saw so many works of art. The last family that owned the castle donated it to Scotland, including all the furniture and art collections. They were all absolute beauties. There was a staircase involved, but otherwise, it was an easy walk with gorgeous gardens to explore. This castle also offers the best view I’ve seen yet. Definitely worth spending a couple of hours.

Kolymvari — The Greek Village Where the Olive Groves Meet the Sea and the Monastery Watches Over All — traveler post in Kolymvari

Kolymvari — The Greek Village Where the Olive Groves Meet the Sea and the Monastery Watches Over All

Greece has Chania and Kissamos. But on the northwest coast of Crete lies a village that few travellers ever find. Kolymvari is a small settlement of whitewashed houses, a harbor lined with fishing boats, and a landscape of olive groves and turquoise water. The village is quiet and unspoiled. Here is how to explore this hidden Greek gem and save money with Trip.com. 1. The Harbor at Dawn: Sea and Silence Kolymvari's harbor is the heart of the village, lined with whitewashed houses, tavernas, and fishing boats. By 10 AM, the day-trippers arrive. Come at 6 AM instead. The water is glass. The light is soft. You will walk along the waterfront with only the sound of gulls and the lapping of waves. It feels like a place where time has stood still. Pro Tip: Download the Trip.com offline map for Kolymvari. It shows you the quietest routes along the harbor and the hidden viewpoints. The best photos are from the pier at sunrise, when the water glows. 2. The Monastery of Gonia: A Spiritual Center Just outside Kolymvari lies the Monastery of Gonia, one of the most important monasteries in Crete. The monastery was founded in the 17th century and houses a museum of religious art. The setting is beautiful. The atmosphere is peaceful. Come early. The monastery is quiet, and the light is soft. Money Hack: The monastery is free to enter. Skip the expensive guided tours. Visit on your own and absorb the calm. Check Trip.com for a "Kolymvari Monastery Walk" that includes the monastery and the village. 3. The Olive Groves: A Taste of Crete Kolymvari is surrounded by olive groves, which have been cultivated here for centuries. The olives are pressed into oil in local mills, and the oil is golden and fragrant. The farmers are proud of their craft. Come in the afternoon. The light is golden, and the groves are peaceful. Budget Advice: Skip the expensive souvenir shops. Buy olive oil directly from a local farmer or mill. Check Trip.com for a "Kolymvari Olive Trail" that shows you the best producers and the quietest times to visit. 4. Food That Tastes Like Crete Cretan food is hearty and fresh. Try Dakos — a barley rusk topped with tomatoes and cheese. Order Grilled Octopus — tender and smoky, served with lemon. And do not miss Baklava — layers of phyllo, nuts, and honey. Where to Eat: Skip the expensive restaurants on the waterfront. Walk into the side streets and find Taverna Kolymvari or To Limani, where locals eat. The food is authentic, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local wine when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a guesthouse in the village. Look for something near the harbor or the olive groves. You will sleep in a whitewashed room with a balcony, a view of the sea, and the scent of thyme. The evenings are quiet, and the stars are bright. Conclusion: Kolymvari is not a place you rush through. It is a place you breathe in. It is a village of olive groves and sea views, of whitewashed lanes and quiet courtyards. It is a place where the past is present in every wall. Greece is a country of islands and ancient wonders, but Kolymvari is its Cretan soul. Come and walk the harbor at dawn. The sea is waiting. #trip_com #Greece #Kolymvari #kolymvaritravel #GreeceHiddenGems #Crete #MonasteryOfGonia #BudgetTravel #EuropeGuide #travelgreece #OliveGroves #HiddenGreece#TurquoiseWater #CretanSpirit #trip_com

Beautiful space — traveler post in Kolymvari

Beautiful space

This was an interesting find. It is a very vibey place, not that crowded when we went. the architecture of building and placement of furniture allows for the sea and road view whilst sipping yummy coffee. we had their oat lattes and it was cafe standard good. The desserts were very well plated and looked amazing but was a little sweet for me - although went very well with the coffee. overall, food is solid and has reliable standard, but more than that, the experience of being in the space is a must have. #europetrip#thingstodo

Avra Imperial Hotel — traveler post in Kolymvari

Avra Imperial Hotel

This luxurious resort on the outskirts of Chania offers solid comfort throughout its 328 rooms, combined with fun for all the family provided by the large glass-sided pool, Blue Flag beach, elegant spa and a good number of restaurants offering a nice variety of world cuisines. The glass-sided pool is huge and there are plenty of sun beds and daybeds surrounding it. A smaller, salt water pool tends to be more peaceful. There is a shingle beach (Blue Flag) at the bottom of the resort; also several tennis courts and a small supermarket. The elegant spa (facilities free to guests) has a hammam, sauna and indoor heated pool, but also thoughtful extras such as heated stone loungers, an ice machine and leg massage jets. Treatments using local organic Apivita products are excellent. Try the 120 minute ‘invitation to harmony’: a sensual float in a petal-strewn salt bath, followed by a peeling with Apivita honey products and a relaxing massage. #hotel #hotelcation #spa #restaurant #reviews #ontheroad#uniquehotel#dessert

Chania

A very niche place for vacation, where you can see a lot of nice and fun things. It is also a very important tourist area, and many open-air shops are beautifully laid out.
