Around Lake Klöntalersee, there are plenty of places to stop for a picnic. You can set up a grill for some hot, Swiss-style sausages right by the water. The atmosphere is so peaceful and truly healing, surrounded by magnificent snow-capped rocky mountains. Photography lovers are guaranteed to get gorgeous shots from every angle! 💡 Good to Know & Tips for Visitors: April: The water level in the lake is still quite low as the snow on the mountains hasn't fully melted yet. When the lake is at its fullest and most beautiful: My Swiss friends suggest waiting until the snow has completely melted. Usually, the water level reaches its beautiful peak between June and August (summer). Picnicking & Overnight Stays: Picnic spots are scattered all around the lake, so you can easily chill and cook during the day. However, setting up a tent for an overnight stay by the lake on your own is not allowed. (If you wish to stay overnight, you must strictly use the designated camping areas/campsites.) If you enjoy slow-paced nature travel and breathing in fresh air, you absolutely shouldn't miss checking in here! ❤️

Klausen Pass Reopens from May 1st

Switzerland's Klausen Pass, at an elevation of 1,948 meters, connecting the cantons of Uri and Glarus, will reopen to traffic on May 1, 2026. The pass, which closes during winter, is reopening about two weeks earlier than originally planned. Starting from 8 a.m. on Friday, visitors will once again be able to drive through this scenic Alpine route. Klausen Pass is famous for its winding roads, magnificent mountain views, and picturesque natural scenery, making it a popular choice for self-driving tours, cycling, and sightseeing trips. The early reopening allows visitors to experience the beauty of the Swiss Alps in spring, admire the snow-capped peaks, and breathe the fresh mountain air. Other Alpine passes in the Uri region are also preparing to reopen. Gotthard Pass is expected to open in mid-May, while Oberalp Pass resumed traffic last Friday. Amazing view from the top. A 360° view of the snowcapped mountains in the distance and lakes below. The view from the train up was also amazing with the view of the lake and mountain at a really steep angle. Get the ferry from Lucerne and you've got a spectacular view all the way. There's another older train from the top that goes on route b through the valley round the back but there's not much to see as it's mostly through the forest.
