Just an hour from Paris — and you are transported to another era. The Middle Ages. Gothic architecture. Stone lacework soaring into the sky. Meet Chartres Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres). The only one in France that has survived almost in its original state since the 13th century. Yes, those are the exact same stained glass windows that Saint Louis himself looked at on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1260. 😱 Why is it love at first sight? 💙 The blue of Chartres. The stained glass windows here feature a unique shade of blue — its secret remains a mystery to this day. This color is known as "Chartres blue," and you won't find it anywhere else. 👑 The relic. The cathedral houses the Sancta Camisa — a tunic that, according to legend, belonged to the Virgin Mary herself. 🌀 The floor labyrinth. Pilgrims still walk its path today. Try walking it yourself; by the end of the journey, you'll experience some truly fascinating sensations! 🗼 Two distinct towers. One is austere and simple, the second is intricate, almost like lace. They were built over centuries, resulting in a perfect combination. 📸 The perfect shot: Head down to the canal embankment or catch the cathedral's reflection in the windows of quaint little shops on the streets of the Old Town. Better yet — climb the tower (€7 and 300+ steps) for a breathtaking panoramic view. 🚆 How to get there from Paris: Take a train from Gare Montparnasse — it's just a 1-hour ride. A round-trip ticket is around €30. Perfect for a day trip. 💰 Admission: Entering the cathedral itself is free. The emotions — priceless. Save this post so you don't lose it, and plan your trip to France ❤️

Just an hour by train from Paris, easily accessible Chartres is home to the first cathedral in France listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Built from the late 12th to early 13th century, it is one of the masterpieces of medieval religious architecture. The cathedral is famous for its exceptionally well-preserved stained glass windows, most of which date back to the 13th century. Their deep colors, known as "Chartres blue," hold a unique place in European art history. Chartres Cathedral is a classic example of French Gothic style: soaring twin towers, a massive rose window, and exquisitely intricate sculpted portals (especially the "Royal Portal") featuring what is considered the most solemn and magnificent faces of the Middle Ages. Inside the cathedral, besides displaying the holy robe once worn by the Virgin Mary, a choir screen about 100 meters long and 6 meters high was added during the 16th to 18th centuries. This choir enclosure (French: clôture de chœur or tour du chœur) depicts the lives of Christ and Mary, blending late Gothic decoration with Renaissance-style sculptures, creating an exquisite masterpiece.

When Notre Dame de Chartres began to be rebuilt after a fire destroyed the original church in 1194, the Gothic style had gradually matured from the early Romanesque style to a transformation period of nearly a hundred years. It only took 26 years to The church built is mainly Gothic. Legend has it that the Virgin Mary once appeared here, and it became a famous pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. After 800 years, the miracle still exists. This cathedral has a Gothic style with Romanesque architectural elements. It is spectacular whether viewed from the front, rear, left, or from a distance. The two towering bell towers are particularly eye-catching because they were built two centuries apart and have different styles. The sculpture art of Notre Dame is unparalleled. The Roman-style west door and main entrance were carved by the top craftsmen of the time. There are about 4,000 statues on both sides, reflecting the evolution of sculpture art over the century. The stained glass is also one of the most famous features of Chartres Cathedral. King Henry IV of France was crowned here in 1594. It was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 1979.
翱翔的大鲨鱼The Palace of Versailles was an incredible experience and definitely a highlight of my trip to France. The palace itself is absolutely breathtaking, with stunning architecture, beautiful rooms, and so much history around every corner. The ticketing process was simple, and the ticket was easy to use for entry into all the main areas of the palace. We were able to explore comfortably without any problems. The only downside was that some parts of the gardens were under construction during our visit, so we couldn’t fully experience the gardens at their best. However, this did not take away from the overall experience. Versailles is still a must-see destination and a place I would highly recommend visiting.
TarynHidden away from the city center, but reachable by foot with a 20/30 minutes pleasent walk. A real house, few rooms and a garden, all decorated with pieces of colorful broken ceramic objects, collected and assembled along 30 years by a public employee during his free time. Incredible result. The man at the entrance was very helpful and told us lots of interesting anedocts as well.
137***66It was a great summit experience, and the accompanying Seine River cruise was also excellent. Our guide was Korean and spoke both English and French, so I had no problem communicating with her in French. There was also a very friendly elderly Australian couple in our group; they even gave me a small souvenir before I left.

_TI***3dI came to Paris with my family, initially thinking that seeing the architecture and taking photos at Notre Dame would be enough. However, since we were already there, I decided to try a Chinese-speaking guided tour. This decision proved to be absolutely right. It was probably the most worthwhile guided tour of our entire European trip, as I learned a lot of religious knowledge I didn't know before. The guide, I think his surname was Li, spoke very naturally, not just reading from a textbook, but connecting the history, architecture, religious stories, and development of Notre Dame with the development of Paris, incorporating a lot of information. Many things I initially thought I wouldn't understand became clear after listening. Especially the stories of the sculptures, rose windows, and fire restoration – seeing them after hearing them made all the difference. Europe is full of churches, and not understanding them can be quite frustrating. After today's tour, I felt like I had a sudden enlightenment. There was a small regret, though: some areas inside Notre Dame aren't free and require separate admission. We met at 4:30 PM today, and waited in line for 10 minutes to enter. The pace of the tour was excellent; the content was rich but not tiring, and there was no feeling of being rushed. We could ask questions anytime during the tour, and the guide patiently answered them. He was highly professional and very approachable. Today, after the Notre Dame tour, we also visited the Latin Quarter of Shakespeare and Company. This wasn't part of the tour itinerary, but the teacher gave us extra time for free because we enjoyed it. By the way, you can also pay to climb to the top of Notre Dame, but the kids couldn't climb, so we skipped it... Afterwards, we went back inside Notre Dame on our own and watched a mass. We found that because we had the guided tour, we understood many parts much better than before when we just took photos. If it's your first time in Paris, I highly recommend not trying to see it on your own. Notre Dame is free, but the guided tour is definitely worth it; it significantly enhances the entire experience. It was one of the most worthwhile activities on our trip, and I've already recommended it to anyone planning a trip to Paris. Also, try to go after 4:30 PM, otherwise the square gets very sunny. Also, Notre Dame has a dress code; you can't wear anything too revealing...
Anonymous userI spent only £8 for the sein river cruise. The ticket process is very easy .I booked through Trip.com and got the e-ticket few minutes later. The trip took 1 hours. I can said that it the best experience I ever had. The view is breathtaking and so beautiful.
