Sitting on a small bridge in the Pingjiang Road historical district (free) and watching an old man play chess across the river, young people chatting and laughing on a boat, and girls in qipao taking photos under the trees is very comfortable and leisurely... The main attractions are gardens, which best represent Suzhou's aesthetics. The structure of the garden construction and some of the bonsai shapes are very characteristic of Suzhou style, and you will be captivated by the classical Chinese beauty here. The Lion Grove Garden and the Humble Administrator's Garden are similar in style, and you only need to visit one. They both require an entrance fee of 70/80 RMB. The commercial streets are mainly beautiful at night. In the evening, Shantang Street (free) is very crowded, with alleys on both sides of the small river packed with people. Indeed, the Humble Administrator's Garden is famous all over the world and has its unique historical culture. However, the downside of being famous is overcrowding and the same old check-in routine. Having lived in Suzhou for over a decade, I recommend a lesser-known garden that locals prefer for weekend strolls - Dongyuan. Dongyuan doesn't have the historical background of the Humble Administrator's Garden, but it excels in being closer to nature. On the calm lake surface, swans, mandarin ducks and ducks are frolicking freely. There are also the unique pavilions of Suzhou gardens. Zhuozheng Garden has experienced several divisions and reunions, becoming a private garden, a place for hiding beauties, or a royal government office. Despite many twists and turns, there are many relics and allusions worth exploring. Zhuozheng Garden is also one of the four major gardens, and it is the largest classical garden in Suzhou. The area is wide, with water in the middle, mountains surrounding, beautiful halls, and flourishing flowers and trees, which is very characteristic of the water towns in Jiangnan. Here, the mountains and waters are connected, presenting different sceneries and different charms. It is especially beautiful to take photos in Hanfu here.
