After visiting the Nissin Peace Memorial Hall, I came to the site of the Honjin Ito residence. There is only a stone monument and an explanation board. I thought that this Ito residence was related to Hirofumi Ito, but Ito is a completely different person. This Ito family is a family that served as a bugyo (magistrate), and it seems that it is a family that serves as the main camp, which is an inn of daimyo, when the Sankin change. So it's "Honjin".
There was a house of a wealthy merchant in Shimonoseki where Ryoma Sakamoto stayed 々

However, at present, there is nothing that makes you feel the remnants of the past, and there may be no spectacular feeling only with a stone monument and explanation.
There is the "Honjin Ito Residence Ruins" near "Akama Jingu", but nothing remains in this place now. The wealthy merchant Ito family has been a famous family since the Kamakura period, and in the Edo period it served as the head office in the east of Shimonoseki.
