It was founded in the Meio era, and is a temple of the Jodo sect, which is said to have originated from the hermitage of a monks called Jonen. The main hall is made of white-walled dozo, which was made in accordance with the 100th anniversary of Akifusa Mabe, successive feudal lords, and is proud of the largest dozo-zukuri in Japan. The statue of Amida Za of Joroku is enshrined in the main hall. It is also known that Basho and Sora visited the temple.
