Shaanxi Foping National Nature Reserve is located on the south slope of the middle section of Qinling Mountain, 158 kilometers to the south from Hanzhong City and 215 kilometers to Xi'an City to the north. It is a nature reserve of forest and wildlife type mainly protected by giant pandas, with a total area of 28,586 hectares. The protected area is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with an altitude of 980 － 2904 meters. There are 1,580 kinds of high-level plants and 265 kinds of wildlife in the area.

In the early Han and Wei period, the historically famous Luogu Road passed through the Huangdouliang area of Foping Reserve, and Wei Wei competed many times to use the army. Tang Wude resumed Luogu Road for seven years, becoming the traffic button connecting Chang'an with Hanzhong and Chengdu. The Tang emperors Li Shi and Li Yan went to Hanzhong through this road to escape the war. When the Tang Dynasty, Huayang Town, close to the protected area, set up a county with a population of 5,000 households and more than 10,000 people. "Foping Hall Zhi" records that the Song Dynasty "in Zhidong Jiaoxi River, the Song Dynasty name Zhang Zhongyong, Gong Muze. Ming Min Lianhui, buried here", "Ming Zhengde 15 years, Jiaoxi River won a white deer, Xianghang copper everywhere, there are engravings, all are destroyed, only Tang characters can be identified."
