Originally a marshland, on Wellington Street in East Perth, it is known as a place of "entertainment" for locals. As a public facility in 1830, it offers an ideal open space and a showcase for horse racing. Cricket was introduced here in 1898, and to this day the square is still associated with cricket, the Perth Cricket Association and the school's training ground, using facilities throughout the year, with fitness equipment and sports instruction boards. The square was officially named Wellington in honor of the British Prime Minister's founding in the Swan River colony in Perth.
