Things to do in Tumen

We are standing next to the border gate on the North Korean border, and now we can see a county on the other side. In addition to the land border gate, there is also a railway border gate and boundary markers that can be visited.

Almost everyone who visits Tumen will stop by this square. Firstly, it's very close to the boundary marker, and secondly, standing here offers a view of the opposite side of the border. Transportation from the train station is very convenient; don't worry about taxis, just take the bus.

Riguang Mountain is located six kilometers southeast of Tumen City. Standing on the main peak, you can clearly overlook Tumen City in China and Nanyang City in North Korea. Across the street, North Korean soldiers are singing military songs during drills, and their voices can be clearly heard. Dogs are barking constantly, smoke is curling, and the sun is bright and peaceful.

Tumen River Park is located at the Tumen Port highway border crossing. A stroll along the Tumen River is quite pleasant, with beautiful scenery on both sides. The border crossing itself is magnificent, offering a panoramic view of both countries. There are also many shops nearby, especially cafes. You can visit the border bridge, the border crossing gate, boundary marker No. 87, Tumen River Square, sculptures, and more. If you have extra time, you can even take a boat tour.

During my trip to Yanji, I made a special trip to visit the famous Chinese Korean Folk Culture Park. This park consists of 40 buildings with traditional Korean architectural features. Entering the park feels like stepping into ancient Korea – quite unique! There are many photo opportunities inside; people dressed in traditional Korean clothing and wearing beautiful makeup really do look like Koreans! It was quite fun! A quick walk around is quite pleasant!

When traveling to Tumen, it is necessary to see the other side. The best location is at Riguang Mountain, and the best location at Riguang Mountain is Nanyang Pavilion. Take bus No. 9 to the terminal. Across the road is the entrance to Riguang Mountain. On the left hand side there is a plank road under construction. You need to climb over a wooden plank road railing to get to the end. This road is the shortest and you can quickly reach Nanyang Pavilion, which is actually a two-story viewing platform with a good view.

The "Instagrammable bullet screen wall" at Yanbian University is located at No. 1 University Town, 1188 Gongyuan Road, Yanji City, opposite the main gate of Yanbian University. The wall houses 75 shops in an 8-story commercial building with over 70 bilingual (Chinese and Korean) neon signs hanging on its exterior. The building is 150 meters long and 33 meters high, and when illuminated at night, it creates a "bullet screen" visual effect.

If you have time to visit Yanji, you absolutely must go to Mao'er Mountain, and you should definitely visit it in the early morning, as the scenery is exceptionally beautiful then. If you're lucky, you might even see the morning mist, which will give you a unique and special experience.

The park is very clean, the signs are clear, and the routes are comfortable. The staff are also very attentive. Overall, the experience was fantastic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. I've already recommended it to friends and will definitely come again. The only downside was the food. Everything was semi-finished and served cold, and it wasn't cheap. I felt like throwing up after eating the abalone rice. This food court really disgusted me. Such a great place, and they put this kind of place in there!
