Reviews: [Redeem required] Nikko Pass (redeem ticket at Tobu Asakusa Tourist Information Center)

📖Itinerary: I was staying in Ginza, Tokyo, and had a free day, so I decided to visit Nikko, a small city about 2 hours' drive from Tokyo. Transportation: 1. If you only plan to spend one day, you can buy a 2-day Nikko Free Pass (don't worry about the number of days, just buy this). It includes round-trip local train tickets between Tokyo and Nikko + unlimited bus rides within Nikko's World Heritage areas (this isn't important, I'll explain later). 2. If you only have the first option, it will take several hours from Tokyo and require transfers, so you'll need an express pass—the Tobu Nikko Limited Express (Special X). This allows for a direct journey, taking about 1 hour and 40-50 minutes. I recommend buying it on Klook. You don't need to print the express pass; just show the order information to the staff before boarding. ✅Must-see attractions: After arriving at Tobu Nikko Station, cross the street to find the bus to your destination. You don't need to swipe a card to board; just show the driver the "1" (paper ticket) on the pass when you get off. This time, I took bus 2B to Shinbashi, which is pictured on the cover and is the symbol of Nikko. Then I started hiking: from Toshogu Shrine, all the shrines are within walking distance. I highly recommend the garden of Rinnoji Temple; it's incredibly beautiful and soothing to the eyes. These shrines and palaces are all World Heritage sites and covered by the 2-day pass. Remember to check the transportation routes before going to other places. 🍜Must-try food: I had a coffee and a huge coffee-flavored ice cream at the Ueshima Cafe near Toshogu Shrine. If you have enough time, you can check out other places. On my way back to the station, I found a strawberry stall that seemed to be their specialty, but it was closed. ✏️Useful Tips: Because I like to relax and unwind, I spent a long time exploring the shrines. Actually, I didn't even get to see the hot springs and waterfalls before heading back to Tokyo. If you have enough time, I suggest staying overnight at the newly opened Ritz-Carlton in Nikko and buying a 4-day all-inclusive pass, which covers the whole of Nikko. Besides Toshogu Shrine (1600 yen) and Rinnoji Temple's treasure vault and garden (300 yen), I don't recommend buying tickets for the others (unless you really want to see them). Just look at them from the outside; you'd be better off buying drinks from the vending machine than spending a few hundred yen more. Many major Japanese cities have small, charming places around their surroundings worth spending a day in. I went to Kawagoe last year, and Nikko this time was also nice.

First time try this for traveling. Very convenience and even no JR line, can go many places with this pass. Sometimes some exit without staff, then have to spend more time & go to another exit with staff.
