The TSS Earnslaw is a century-old steamship that forms an integral part of Queenstown's pioneering history and has become an iconic symbol of the town. A cruise on Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw is undoubtedly one of the best ways to experience Queenstown's stunning scenery. The 90-minute relaxing cruise showcases Queenstown's magnificent landscapes while allowing you to explore this historic 100-year-old steamship and glimpse into Queenstown's glorious past. Walter Peak High Country Farm, located on the picturesque southwestern shore of Lake Wakatipu, boasts a rich history.

Transportation guide

Approximately 400m from Queenstown Visitor Center, a 5-minute walk. Parking spaces in Queenstown center are limited, so we recommend allowing at least 30 minutes to find a spot. There are limited free street parking spaces near Queenstown center, while paid parking lots are available on Man Street, Church Street, Boundary Street, and Ballarat Street. The parking lots on Boundary Street and Ballarat Street can accommodate RVs.

TSS Earnslaw steamboat ticket cruise

Cruise Lake Wakatipu aboard a 100-year-old steamship for approximately 90 minutes. English and Chinese buided commentary are available onboard. You can visit the engine room to see the massive steam engine in action, browse the collection of historical photos in the mini-museum, visit the bridge, and even sing along to the pianist's music. You can also relax with wine and snacks in the cruise's Promenade Café and Bar. (The TSS Earnslaw will undergo annual maintenance from May 15 to June 26, 2023. During this period, single-ship steamship boat ticket will not be available. Other cruise offering meals and a farm tour will be operated instead.) Note: Single- boat ticket package do not include lunch or a farm tour, and disembarkation is not permitted!

TSS Earnslaw Steamship + Walter Peak Farm Tour

Cruise Lake Wakatipu by steamship and arrive at Walter Peak High Country Farm, located on the southwest shore of Lake Wakatipu. After disembarking the TSS Earnslaw steamship, you'll receive a warm welcome from the farm owner, who will guide you on a farm tour. The first stop is the animal pens, where you can help feed sheep and deer, and even get up close to Scottish Highland cattle. Then, stroll through the lakeside gardens to Colonel's Homestead for a traditional high country morning/afternoon tea (scones and pikelets). Afterward, the farmhands will lead you to the sheep shearing show, where sheepdogs first herd the sheep from the hillside, and then the workers perform a sheep shearing demonstration. Finally, you'll board the TSS Earnslaw steamship to return to Queenstown. (The TSS Earnslaw cruise will undergo annual maintenance from May 15 to June 26, 2023. During this period, the cruise with meals will be operated by other vessels.) Note: The steamship + farm tour package does not include lunch, but you can enjoy farm afternoon tea!

Board the TSS Earnslaw steamship to cross Lake Wakatipu and arrive at Walter Peak High Country Farm. Enjoy a farm show and a BBQ lunch. The Colonel's Homestead Restaurant, located at the heart of the farm, offers a uniquely friendly atmosphere for relaxation. You'll savor a hearty three-course BBQ lunch featuring a variety of fresh local New Zealand ingredients.

After lunch, you'll watch an exciting farm show featuring sheep shearing, sheepdogs herding, and hands-on animal feeding. Alternatively, you can stroll through the beautiful lakeside garden and enjoy the scenic views.

Board the TSS Earnslaw steamship to cross Lake Wakatipu and arrive at Walter Peak High Country Farm, where you'll enjoy a farm show and a BBQ dinner at the Colonel's Homestead Restaurant. The menu features a rich variety of local New Zealand ingredients, from juicy meats and delectable seafood to fresh fruits, vegetables, and exquisite desserts with international flavors. After dinner, your guide will lead you on a leisurely farm walk, sharing fascinating stories about the ranch.
