My rating of 'very good' takes into consideration the amount we paid to stay here. This was the cheapest of our 12 accommodations in NZ at under £100 equivalent. We actually felt an element of sadness as the hotel has clearly had a much grander past and is suffering now, either through lack of investment or changes in customer demand. We noticed that visitors to Queenstown are in the majority younger people looking for the thrill experiences, so perhaps a hotel on the outskirts of the town originally designed for the more discerning traveller is no longer what people are looking for. The Dining room for example is grandly furnished and has amazing views across the river - you can imagine a fine dining experience here being very popular , but now the restaurant is closed for evening meals and just opens for breakfast. Such a shame. We were advised by email that evening meals were no longer available so we were prepared for that and as there are other places close by it was not a problem for us. Our room was very spacious and had an equally spacious balcony. It was bigger than many other rooms we had in other accommodations. True, it was dated and tired but the bed was comfortable, clean and we slept well. Fresh milk was easily available at reception in a small glass bottle for in room beverages - I prefer that arrangement - the little plastic packets of milk are not environmentally friendly and fresh milk always tastes nicer. The walk/ hall way to the rooms from reception to the 1st floor was in a very poor state - this gives a very poor impression and badly needs redecorating. Breakfast was ok - not amazing, but for the money paid we felt it served its purpose well. The staff we saw were all very friendly and accommodating. There is no lift in the building and the gentleman on reception offered to take our cases up to our room as he could see they were quite heavy. It will be interesting to see what happens with this hotel over the coming years, we do wish the current team well as clearly things are not easy for them at the moment.

The kitchen is fully equipped, everything is there, and there is a dishwasher, very convenient! The staff will introduce the nearest supermarkets, sightseeing spots, and maps to the guests. The rooms are the right size. There is a large bed and 2 small beds, suitable for families with children. But especially do not understand that it is a family room, only two people are allowed to stay, and the third person is charged. At the other end of the room, I did not inform VISA of the service charge. When I checked out the bill, I found that I received the handling fee.

Friendly front of house and house keeping staff. Although there are staffing shortages everywhere, the staff here were always available and helpful. Our house keeping team although on a 3 day turn around service, did not get to service our room while we were there, offered towels and extra tea, coffee without hesitation when requested. Thank you so much! The decor is quite out dated and while at first it was off putting, (cream/green interior hallway and furniture, corridor stained carpets, seeing the size of our room and how clean it was made up for it. The bed was a king/possible super king, very comfortable and extra pillows provided. The continental breakfast is more than sufficient. Again the waiting staff I approached where happy to top up, add more (the pastries). Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The hotel does not have a reception desk. You need to email the check-in password upon arrival. Three-storey cottage Very comfortable, all matching utensils, all plates are no bowls The bedroom looks unbeatable, with roof glass There are special hiking trails seven or eight minutes down the mountain It's more difficult to go up the mountain, but it's almost a quarter of an hour. It's still close to the town.

We had a good stay, enjoyed the daily simple breakfast with the fantastic view of the snow mountains from the restaurant. We were able to do simple cooking for my family. The dinning and recreation area was cosy and we spent a lot of time there after our daily sight-seeing. The cleaning and support staff (we understand they come from another country to work in NZ) made our stay at the lodge more comfortable. When we informed them our warmer broke down in our room, a female and male staff came and inspected our warmer in our room. Thereafter, the male staff brought us additional blankets and portable warmers to keep ourselves and our 4 kids warm - KUDOS! It is a good value accommodation for my family - considering for the price that we had paid as compared to the prices of other accommodation in Queenstown, NZ.
