Yuanmingyuan is a large royal garden in the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, composed of Yuanmingyuan, Changchunyuan and Hunchunyuan, so it is also called Yuanming Three Gardens. Yuanmingyuan covers an area of 3.5 square kilometers, with a construction area of 160,000 square meters, more than 150 scenery, and is known as the "Yuanmingyuan Garden". Qing emperor came here every summer to escape the heat, listen to the government, handle military and political affairs, so it is also called "summer palace". The Yuanmingyuan was built in 1707 (Kangxi 46 years), originally the gift garden of Kangxi Emperor to the emperor's four sons, Kangxi titled "yuan Yuanyuan", "yuan Yuan" as the "Yuanzheng Law No. After the arrival of the Zhengzheng in 1722, the original gift garden was expanded, and the Zhengda Guangming Palace and Qinzheng Palace were built in the south of the park, as well as many houses in the cabinet, six ministries and military aircraft, and wanted to "avoid the noise and listen to the government" in the summer. During the reign of Qianlong Emperor, in addition to the partial construction and renovation of the Yuanmingyuan, Changchun Garden was built in the east, and Wanchun Garden was merged in the southeast. The pattern of the Yuanmingyuan is basically formed. The Jiaqing Dynasty mainly renovated and built the Hunchun Garden (Wanchun Garden), making it one of the main gardening places. Dao Guang emperor, the state affairs are declining, the financial resources are insufficient, but Ning withdraws Wanshou, Xiangshan, Yuquan "three mountains" furnishings, stop the heat of the river to escape the heat and the hunting of magnolia, still do not give up the renovation and decoration of Yuanming Sanyuanyuan. On October 6, 1860, the British and French coalition forces looted the Summer Palace, looted cultural relics, burned, and wanted to repair it when the emperor was in the same period. Later, due to financial difficulties, they were forced to stop and rebuild other buildings. After the eight-country coalition forces, they were hit by bandits and finally turned into rubble. Under the creation and operation of the Qingshi for more than 150 years, the Yuanmingyuan has been known to the world for its grand regional scale, outstanding creation skills, exquisite architectural landscapes, rich cultural collections and profound national cultural connotations, and is known as "the model of all gardening art". French writer Victor Hugo called it "a model of ideal and art".

The Old Summer Palace, also known as Yuanmingyuan or Yuanmingyuan Park, originally called the Imperial Gardens, and sometimes called the Winter Palace, was a complex of palaces and gardens in present-day Haidian District, Beijing, China.

After the eight-nation alliance arms robbery, the warlords, institutions, and nationals carried out wooden robbery, earth robbery, the house, trees, and foundations were all gone, the ruins of the site park are worthy of the name, and the relics of 80% of the area are mounds + water (there are quite a lot of plants), as a general park, Suitable for walking and exercising. A better part of the retention is developed as an office. Must see: the classic Yuanmingyuan photo shoot in the Xiyanglou ruins area (you need to buy tickets separately), and the model exhibition hall (you need to buy tickets separately) can see the original building layout. There was also a display of stone pieces returned by Beijing institutions, which was visible at the time. Zhengjue Temple could only enter from outside the park.

Big park! Lots of historical ruins. Would be great if you have a guide to explain its significance. Not easy to get around with kids as it’s impossible to cover everything in a day. To save your legs, you could take a boat ride. There was quite a queue for the boat ride, however I came on a weekend so that is to be expected.

Beautiful but crazy busy! My sister and I went during the Labour Day holiday. as expected, all tourist attractions were overcrowded but manageable, however this particular place was too crowded. The paths are quite narrow so we felt it more. Nevertheless this place is supper worth it. Lots of water and greenery around, with some old ruins.

Was lucky enough to go on a sunny day that was not crowded! Mid-morning is best, and it’s good to spend at least 2 hours here. Easy by ride share or subway/walk. There’s a lot of history, and the site is massive in terms of ruins and unkept landscape. Perfect April-September.

Exploring the ruins of the Old Summer Palace, Yuanmingyuan, is a haunting yet enlightening experience. Walking amidst the remnants of what was once a majestic imperial retreat, I couldn't help but feel a sense of melancholy mixed with awe. The vastness of the gardens, once adorned with exquisite architecture, lavish pavilions, and tranquil lakes, now lay in ruins, a testament to the ravages of time and history. Yet, amidst the rubble, there is a profound beauty in the enduring resilience of natu
