Parachute Tower Review

On April 4, 1941, the China Gliding Association, established in Chongqing, decided to establish a parachuting tower to train the air force, promote aviation construction, develop national sports, popularize youth education and enhance national defense awareness. At that time, the height of Chongqing skydiving tower and the exquisite construction materials, can be comparable to the skydiving towers in many countries in the world, so it is not only China but also Asia's first-class skydiving tower. Although it has been unable to adapt to the development of skydiving for a long time, it has been the first skydiving tower in China and Asia and has trained many outstanding athletes. Its achievements will record the history of China's sports. The tower is a reinforced concrete structure, which is conical. The tower is 38 meters high, the actual jump distance is 28 meters, the ground is 35 meters from the steel arm, the top diameter is 1.52 meters, the bottom diameter is 3.35 meters, and the lower circumference is 13 meters. When the three skydiving steel frames are opened outward, like a steel giant, embracing the blue sky, very spectacular. After the completion of the Chongqing skydiving tower, it provided a very important training place for training pilots during the period of the War of Resistance. However, due to the cost of each skydiving, the fare is expensive, and the average teenager is deterred, so the skydiving movement has not been popularized. After the liberation of Chongqing, under the cordial care of Comrade He Long, Chongqing's skydiving movement flourished. In 1954, the Chongqing skydiving school was established at Datianwan Stadium, and aviation skydiving activities were carried out, and a number of excellent skydiving athletes were trained and created. The skydiving tower has also been repaired many times by the relevant departments, and it is still standing in Datianwan Stadium, which is well preserved. In September 2000, it was announced by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government as a municipal cultural relics protection unit.
