Back from Xingtai. After a relaxed three-day stay, my spending habits were completely overturned
Just got back from Xingtai, where I stayed for three days and two nights. I was truly amazed by this hidden gem in Hebei😭
I used to think that any somewhat famous tourist city would be expensive. Spending a thousand or eight hundred yuan on food, lodging, and activities was normal.
But Xingtai completely changed my perception of travel expenses! Prices are ridiculously low, there are almost no traps, and the locals are incredibly genuine. You can visit a thousand-year-old temple for free, enjoy city parks at will, eat until full for just a few yuan, and experience mountains, rivers, and ancient sights all in one place. Three days of comfortable, fulfilling sightseeing cost so little it’s hard to believe. My spending habits have been totally reshaped✨
I put together a simple three-day independent travel guide anyone can follow—no rushing, no getting ripped off, and maximum value!
💰 Actual expenses for one person over three days (excluding round-trip major transportation)
Purely laid-back travel, no scrimping or splurging. Authentic food, clean lodging, and all key attractions covered:
· Two nights lodging: 240 yuan

📅 Relaxed three-day itinerary for beginners with zero risk
Day 1: Leisurely city stroll | Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a thousand-year-old ancient city🏯
No long trips on the first day, just an easy pace focused on culture and healing.
In the morning, visit Kaiyuan Temple, a genuine thousand-year-old Tang dynasty temple. The environment is serene and simple, with ancient ginkgo trees, a giant iron bell, and historic halls creating a rich atmosphere. The entire temple is free to enter, with no commercial noise—quiet and soothing. A slow walk here is very relaxing.
For lunch, try Xiguan heluo noodles nearby. A bowl costs just over ten yuan. The freshly pressed buckwheat noodles are chewy and smooth, the bone broth is rich, and it comes with side dishes. It’s a local staple for breakfast or lunch—delicious and filling.
In the afternoon, head to Dahuo Spring Park, a free natural urban oxygen bar. It’s shaded by trees with clear lakes, pavilions, and towers arranged beautifully. Perfect for walking and photos. Locals come here to drink tea and stroll, full of everyday life charm.
On the way, visit Xingtai Museum and Qingfeng Tower to learn about this 3,500-year-old city’s history. The collections are rich and admission is free. You’ll leave feeling fulfilled.
In the evening, explore the city night market. Enjoy snacks and local sour jujube juice, which is sweet and tangy and refreshes the palate. It’s a gentle flavor unique to Xingtai🌙
Day 2: Explore wonders | Check out North China’s top karst cave wonder🌌
Day two is for Xingtai’s signature attraction—Kongshan Baiyun Cave, a must-see!
This is a stunning natural karst cave in North China. The cave stays around 16℃ year-round, making it super cool in summer. The stalactites come in all shapes and sizes, and under the lighting, the scene is dreamy and breathtaking. Every step reveals a new view, even more impressive than photos.
A guided tour lasts about two hours, just right—not too tiring. Around the scenic area, local farmhouse dishes are available. Wild vegetables and small river fish are affordable and served in large portions, with authentic farmhouse flavors.
In the afternoon, take a stroll along nearby rural paths. The mountain air is fresh, far from city noise, and very relaxing.
Day 3: Food and stroll | Savor authentic Xingtai flavors to end the trip🍜
The last day focuses on eating, drinking, and an easy return.
Start with a bowl of Longyao lamb soup. The milky white broth is fresh without any gamey taste. The baked flatbread is crispy, and you can get free refills of soup. A warm bowl like this is very comforting.
During the day, wander the old streets and try local specialties. Don’t miss Weixian roasted sandwich, with a crispy, flaky crust filled with donkey meat or steamed jelly. Each costs just over ten yuan and is very satisfying.
For lunch, visit the intangible cultural heritage old brand Heijia Dumplings. The thin skin, generous filling, and juicy broth make it a classic. Locals love it for holidays and everyday gatherings.
After a leisurely meal, buy some local specialties, pack up, and head home. A fulfilling and complete trip.

✍️ Genuine travel reflections
I’ve been to many cities, most with similar attractions, inflated prices, and constant traps.
But Xingtai is different. It’s low-key, sincere, and not commercialized.
It has a thousand years of history, stunning natural caves, healing city gardens, and affordable food everyone can enjoy.
No need to save up a fortune or rush through a military-style itinerary. Spend three slow days here to see mountains, rivers, and ancient sights while experiencing everyday life.
If you want a less crowded, cool, budget-friendly, and healing short trip, I sincerely recommend Xingtai! You won’t regret it✨
