Under the stars beneath the pale moonlight
#mymymemories#awesomepic
We have been eyeing bukit holbung in samosir regency for the longest time, so when the opportunity to camp for a night on the hill arrived we grabbed it without much thought.
I would recommend to hire a driver if u are in a group. He collected us from Medan Airport and arranged the camping trip complete with tents and cooking utensils.
It turned out that the trip was very memorable and peaceful. The landscape was #awesomepic picturesque as far as the eyes can see. The weather was not the best, however it did not hamper our excitement.
Important to note that public toilets were available at the foothill. There was one at midhill but the condition was not great and no water supply!
Apart from that, we had an enjoyable camping trip with the best view.

A journey to Indonesia's hidden Gem: Lake Toba
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Lake Toba and Samosir Island, and it was truly a trip of a lifetime! From the breathtaking natural beauty of the lake to the fascinating culture of the Batak people, this trip had something for everyone. ☀️🤗
First, let me start with Lake Toba itself. 🌴This is the largest volcanic lake in the world, and it is absolutely stunning. The water is crystal clear and the scenery is simply breathtaking. We spent hours just sitting by the shore and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.🥑🥥🥭
🚣But Lake Toba isn't just a pretty sight - it's also a great place for activities. The highlight of the trip was visiting Samosir Island. This is an island in the middle of the volcano Lake, Lake Toba, and it is home to the Batak people. The Batak have a rich and fascinating culture. We visited traditional Batak villages, such as Siallagan and Tomok where you can experience Batak music and performances and that’s also the place where you can buy Batak souvenirs such as wooden sculptures, Batak instruments and clothes.🏊💚🌴
There are a lot of Home Stays, Bungalows or Hotels mainly around Tuk Tuk area, which is the lively tourist area. One of the best and most authentic plays to stay is Tuk-Tuk Timbul, it is not directly located in the middle of the lively touristic Tuk-Tuk area, but it lays on the way (by foot around 15-20min and by motorbike around 5min).☀️☀️ tuition's Timbul is such a gem, peaceful, your bungalow is directly in front of the lake for morning dips and the people are so friendly. Perfect place if you want to reflect, find inspiration and do Yoga.🧘🏻♀️
😍Overall, I highly recommend a trip to Lake Toba and Samosir Island. The natural beauty of the lake is unmatched, and the opportunity to learn about the Batak culture is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Whether you're looking for a relaxing vacation or an adventure-filled trip, this destination has something for everyone. 😍😘

Samosir Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Ancient Batak Village on Samosir Island
Huta Siallagan was my last stop of Samosir round the island trip as it was within walking distance to my hotel in Tuk-Tuk Timbul.
In the Batak language, Huta Siallagan means the Village of Siallagan Clan. The village was founded by King Siallagan hundreds of years ago.
There are a number of traditional Bolon and Sopo houses which are traditional houses of the Batak people. At the center of Huta Siallagan you can see two sets of large stones carved into chairs encircling a stone table. These stone furniture artifacts are called Batu Parsidangan, meaning “Stones for Meetings and Trials”.
Entrance fee Rp10,000.

Batu Passa, Samosir Island
Batu Passa comes from the word Passa Passa in the Batak language which means a place for farmers in the middle of a rice field to repel birds that eat rice. It is located on the shores of Lake Toba, Sangkal Village, Simanindo District, Samosir Regency.
There is an iconic tree that grows very near to the water surrounded by big rocks. The rocks in this place make it one of the exotic places in Samosir Regency.
It's definitely an insta worthy place! This place is not crowded and completely free to visit. You can park close to the shore at the empty space available. Many people stop here for pictures and you can even have picnics here.

🇮🇩 Lake Toba: Parapat to Samosir by ferry
#2024wish
I spent one night at Gapura Hotel in Parapat, a small town in North Sumatra on the edge of Lake Toba, before taking a ferry to Samosir Island. As a solo backpacker, transport is an issue when there is no public transport or ride hailing services like Grab and Gojek in Lake Toba area. As my hotel was about 5 km from the ferry terminal, I asked the front desk of Gapura Hotel if they could send me to the ferry terminal. Thankfully the staff was kind enough to send me to the terminal on motorbike. I offered to pay but the staff refused.
There are a few ferry terminals in Parapat offering ferry services to different locations in Samosir Island. The hotel staff dropped me off at the newly built Pelabuhan Ajibata. The new ferry terminal seemed to offer higher-end ferry services to tourists and I was told that there was no ferry available that day. The staff I approached at the new ferry terminal directed me to a small port next to it. That's the port where locals take local ferries to and fro Samosir.
And so I boarded the local ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000). The ferry runs regularly so there is no need to buy tickets in advance. The ferry conductor will collect ticket fees from the passengers one by one.
The ferry looked quite old and rundown but no complaints since the fare was so cheap. There was no air-conditioning too. There were also vendors selling snacks on the ferry.
I sat at the open deck to immerse myself in the beauty of Lake Toba and took lots of pictures! It's definitely an eye-opening experience for me. One should try to take the local ferry instead of the premium ferry for a truly local experience in Lake Toba regions!

Tomok Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Tomok Village
The boat ride from Parapat to Somasir was smooth. Many great scenery by the lake. The Batak house was unique and worth taking some pictures, especially with wide-angle lens. The grave of Raja Sidabutar needs a little up-grading and maintenance. The shops selling souvenirs could be improved with better ventilation and lighting. Visitors need to be careful when doing any purchasing as bargaining skill is required. Personally, it was a moderately enjoyable outing for me.
Dont worry due to local people there so kind and welcome. Had to visit again and so memorable. Beauty, ethnicity, welcome are the best words ever to this village. So lucky visiting Tomok Village.

King Sidabutar Tomb
If you go to Indonesia, you should not miss Samosir Island. But anyway you can hire a guide because with guided tours, you will know more about the history.
The Huta was so nice and we even get to know some histories of the Kings, and anyone who are adults should admit to wear the sarung as a respect to the Kings.
There, you should pay respect to the Kings and always mouthed with "Horas", to show friendly.
Before the arrival of Christianity to the island, they practiced an indigenous belief called Parmalim which is basically another form of animism. However, in the 19th century European missionaries successfully converted this society into Christianity, which occurred during the reign of the third king of Sidabutar family. The royal graveyard at Tomok is the evidence to this.
