Additional information on each of these hidden gem churches 👇
① Gloucester Cathedral (Gloucester, England 🇬🇧)
Approximately a 2-hour train ride from London,
and about a 10-minute walk from the station to the church.
There are no places to leave large luggage such as suitcases at either the station or the church, so it's best to travel as light as possible.
② San Juan de Dios Church and San Jerónimo Monastery (Granada, Spain 🇪🇸)
Located on the edge of the city center of Granada, home to the World Heritage site "Alhambra Palace."
About a 10-minute walk from the popular Granada Cathedral.
San Jerónimo Monastery has a midday closing time of about 90 minutes from 1:30 PM.
The closing time varies depending on the day of the week, so check their website before you go.
③ Bressanone Cathedral
(Bressanone, Italy 🇮🇹)
A little over a 15-minute walk from Bressanone train station.
Bressanone is in Italy, but since it's in northern Italy, German is also spoken.💡
When searching for train routes from Italy, search for Bressanone.
When searching for train routes from Germany, search for Brixen.
Although the names are different, they are both the same station.🚃
④ St. Peter and St. Paul Church (Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿)
There are two tram stations nearby, but since the church is on a hill, it's a 10-15 minute uphill walk from either station.
If you find climbing difficult or are not confident in your physical strength, it's a good idea to take a taxi or Uber on the way there!
Don't forget to enjoy the panoramic view of Prague from the park on the grounds!
⑤ Loretta Church (Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿)
It's less than a 10-minute walk from Prague Castle, but coming from Prague Castle involves an uphill climb...
First, take the tram to visit Strahov Monastery, famous for its beautiful library, and then take the route from there to Loretta Church → Prague Castle. Since it's downhill, it's less tiring even on foot. 💪
⑥ Asam Church (Munich, Germany 🇩🇪)
It's about an 8-minute walk from Marienplatz, a popular tourist spot in Munich. The free admission is a bonus!
Google Maps always says it's open from 9:00 to 18:00, but the official website says it opens at 13:00 on Fridays, so it's best to avoid Friday mornings.
If there's a group service reservation, you might not be able to enter the chapel for about an hour.
(Check for any signs posted outside before entering)
⑦ Notre Dame Cathedral of Fourvière
(Lyon, France 🇫🇷)
It's located on a hill, but you can take a cable car up from the Vieux Lyon - Cathédrale Saint-Jean station below.
If the weather is good, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lyon!
Don't forget the view from the observation point next to the church!
Bonus: Gardens of St. Dunstan-in-the-East Church
(London, England 🇬🇧)
It's less than a 5-minute walk from popular tourist spots like the Sky Garden and the Tower of London.
It's not large, but there are benches in the park, so it's great for a picnic with takeout food.
Note that bringing in equipment for photography requires permission.
(Personal photography with smartphones and cameras is OK)
Everywhere is a beautiful, photogenic spot, yet there are fewer tourists, so you can take your time taking pictures 📸
