After 9 years, I stepped foot in Changsha again, wandering in the Hunan Provincial Museum until closing. The tourists on Tongcheng Kongcheng Old Street can be counted on two hands. Shouxian is ancient and solemn, not overly developed. Every day in Anhui was comfortable, free, and joyful! Ate the long-awaited stinky mandarin fish, I love it so much! 9️⃣ September｜Guizhou·Guiyang For the Mayday concert, third visit to Guiyang, visited the long-awaited Guizhou Provincial Museum, ate bean and rice hotpot, and checked in at Wuqiu for the first time. 1️⃣0️⃣ October｜Guangxi·Guilin, Guangdong·Foshan After National Day, took an off-peak one-day trip to Guilin. Although I know Guilin very well, every visit still feels fresh and new. Bought tickets a few days before the concert to see Yoga Lin sing new songs, a weekend two-day concert trip, third visit to Foshan, tried very delicious tofu pudding and jasmine navel orange American style. 1️⃣1️⃣ November｜Guangxi·Chongzuo+Baise Blue Cave Coffee can be considered the most surprising scenic spot this year, beautiful scenery, delicious coffee, making me eager to go again. Deep Earth Exploration: A Time Drifting Journey through Baise Liming Tongtian River The tour boat glides across the calm water, the dragon's back (rock formation) dimly visible in the darkness, and from where the stone curtains hang low, whispers from ten thousand years ago seem to drift. At dawn, as the first rays of sunlight pierced through the dense mountain forests of Liming Township, Pingguo City, Baise, Guangxi, I stood before the entrance of "Ganmo Rock." This place now bears a more poetic name – Liming Tongtian River Scenic Area. Awarded National AAAA-level Scenic Area status in 2013, this karst wonder hidden deep within the karst landscape awaits visitors to uncover its secrets accumulated over hundreds of millions of years. The moment I stepped through the scenic area's gate, a sudden drop in temperature brought a refreshing coolness. This is a typical cave and underground river scenic area, where outside, mountains, seas of forests, and competing peaks and cliffs abound, while inside is another world entirely. --- 01 First Exploration of the Cave The first sight upon entering the cave is an astonishingly vast "Heaven on Earth." This enormous cave hall, covering an area of 33,000 square meters, features the "Jiujiu Dongtian" dome, towering 99 meters high. The design with six natural ventilation openings allowed me to feel fresh air circulating even deep within the cave. Light danced among the stalactites, casting ever-changing shadows. The land tour route is approximately 1680 meters long, taking about 50 minutes to walk. Each step felt like treading on the rings of geological history. The "Magical Dragon's Back" on the land route stretches over 60 meters, like a giant dragon sleeping deep within the earth. The "Golden and Silver Twin Pagodas," each over 30 meters tall, glow with solemn and mysterious luster under the illumination, recognized as the cave's most precious treasures. 02 Boating on the Underground River When the land tour leaves you wanting more, you can head to the pier to board a small boat and embark on a 1600-meter, approximately 40-minute underground river cruise. The boatman pushed off the wooden boat, and it slowly glided into the waterway. Stalactites hanging from the cave ceiling were reflected in the water. Stalagmites, stone curtains, stone waterfalls, stone shields, stone terraces, and stalactites in various forms, illuminated by colorful lights, created dreamlike reflections that rippled with the water. The boat journeyed through the underground river, which is about 3 to 10 meters wide with calm currents, offering an ideal combined land and water touring experience. At one point, the boatman pointed to a rock on the cave wall resembling a human figure: "This is the statue of Buluotuo." He explained, "Buluotuo is a Zhuang word meaning 'headman in the mountains' or 'elder who knows everything,' and in Zhuang mythology, he is the creator god, moral god, and ancestral god." The light happened to shine on that rock, and its silhouette indeed resembled a wise elder looking down at the passing boats and visitors. 03 Red Memory This scenic area also has another name – "Red Army Rock." In 1931, the Red Seventh Army, led by Wei Baqun, was besieged here by the enemy. After holding out for 36 days, they miraculously survived. This history has made the Tongtian River Scenic Area one of Pingguo City's patriotic education bases. Inside the cave, there are still remnants of the Red Seventh Army's activities, such as stone benches and large stone slabs used for living and working. As I walked deeper into the cave, at an inconspicuous platform, the guide stopped and softly recounted that period of history. The red lights on the cave walls seemed to tell a story, and history and reality intertwined at that moment. 04 Natural Gallery The alternating land and water tour methods kept my eyes constantly refreshed. Within the total cave area of over 100,000 square meters, there are 26 giant stone pillars exceeding 20 meters in height. These stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone curtains shimmer under the lights, resembling a natural art palace. Official data indicates that the entire scenic area tour takes approximately 1.5 hours, covering a route of about 3 kilometers. However, I felt as if time was stretched here. Every landscape required a careful stop, and every rock seemed to tell its story of hundreds of millions of years. Seeking Mirror Baise: A Landscape of Mountains, Water, and Half a Lake of Lotus The lake surface reflects the outline of green mountains, the deep blue water hides the lake bottom, wild lotuses gently sway with the waves, and a few egrets fly by, breaking the tranquility. Nestled among the surrounding mountains, Pozao Town in Pingguo City, Baise, Guangxi, hides a little-known body of water—Bujing Lake. It is about 26 kilometers from the county seat, a pool of clear water like a mirror fallen to the human world, reflecting the changing seasons. This place was once a secret realm privately kept by locals, and today more than 500 acres of lake surface and thousands of acres of lotus fields complement each other beautifully. --- 01 A Chance Encounter on the Way Driving from Pingguo County to Pozao Town, the 26-kilometer journey unfolds along a winding secondary road. Outside the car window, vast vineyards stretch like a green ocean, clusters of purple agate-like grapes hanging on the vines, tempting and mouthwatering. After about fifteen minutes of driving, a faint fragrance begins to drift in the air. As the vehicle moves forward, the view suddenly opens up—a vast expanse of continuous lotus ponds unexpectedly comes into sight. A 15-kilometer lotus belt intertwined with mountain and water scenery forms a natural landscape painting. Occasionally, roadside stalls set up by farmers sell fresh lotus seeds and homemade lotus honey, revealing the deep connection between this land and the lotus. 02 Lakeside Legend The name Bujing Lake originates from a beautiful legend. It is said that in ancient times, a fairy passed by this place and was deeply attracted by the lake and mountain scenery. She rested on a cloud and lingered by the lake to play in the water but felt the lake surface was somewhat plain. So the fairy waved her delicate hand, and countless lotus seeds fell into the lake, instantly taking root and blooming into a lake full of lotus flowers. The fairy wandered among the flowers, her heart blooming with joy, until sunset when she hurried back to heaven but left behind her makeup mirror on the hill by the lake. Today, on the hill by the lake, there is a naturally formed round stone cave through a transparent mountain body, resembling a round mirror, called "Tianjing Mountain" by locals. On moonlit nights, the "round mirror" of Tianjing Mountain and the moon’s reflection are cast onto the lake, creating a magical scene of four "full moons" shining together in the sky, on the mountain, and in the lake. 03 Lake and Mountain Scenery Bujing Lake has a wide and calm surface, covering about 500 acres. The lake water comes from several springs, with abundant flow and clear quality. The most peculiar feature is the deep blue color of the water, where the lake bottom cannot be seen, exuding a mysterious and unfathomable beauty. From the best viewing spot by the lake, half the lake is lotus flowers, half is clear water, egrets fly low, wild ducks play in the water, and fish swim leisurely. The small village by the lake quietly rests in the bay, with green trees shading white walls and gray tiles, forming a pastoral picture of harmony between humans and nature. Professor Zhu Xuewen, president of the Chinese Cave Society, once visited and exclaimed with an inscription: "A true earthly paradise, a fairyland of marshes!" If the fairy of old returned to see the lotus seeds she scattered creating such a human paradise, she would surely stay here forever, unwilling to leave. 04 Lotus World From June to September each year, Bujing Lake’s lotus flowers enter their peak blooming period. Here, not only are there hundreds of acres of wild lotus in the lake, but also more than 3,000 acres of lotus ponds surrounding it. The "Colorful Lotus Garden" in the Lotus World Scenic Area gathers over 500 lotus varieties from around the world. When in bloom, the colors are dazzling and spectacular. Lotus leaf steamed chicken uses free-range native chickens raised on lotus seed rice and corn; lotus pond ducks feed on small snails and fish in the lotus ponds, resulting in delicious meat; most special is the fish from Bujing Lake, tender and infused with the fragrance of lotus flowers. In the small Zhuang villages by the lake, there is often a large banyan tree at the village entrance, under which flows a clear spring from Bujing Lake. Sitting on a stone bench, dipping bare feet into the cool spring water, the summer heat instantly dissipates. Yuanyangtan Resort is located in Matou Town, Pingguo County, about 15 kilometers from the county seat. Starting from Shenzhen, there are three options. If you’re coming from provinces or cities around Guangxi, generally the options are the same. 1. You can join a local Guangxi hiking group. During popular holidays, they usually organize large groups that depart directly from local areas to hike in Guangxi. You can take a bus from Shenzhen straight to Jianlong Mountain, Haokun Lake, Longyang Tiankeng, and other spots for hiking. It takes about 17 hours to reach the first destination, but this is really for the super tough! If you can endure a 17-hour bus ride, this option is convenient and cheap. 2. You can take a high-speed train directly to Nanning, then find a local hiking group in advance. After resting one night, you can set off with the local group the next day. Usually, they gather around 8 a.m. at a designated spot, then take a 3-hour bus ride to the foot of Jianlong Mountain. After climbing, they will take you back to the meeting point. This way, you can rest well and make a day trip. Although it might be physically demanding, if you can handle it, this is a very good choice! Taking a 5-year-old to Pingguo Tongtian River, I originally thought it would be an “easy educational trip,” but we ran into 3 small problems! I’ve put together this guide to help you have a smoother trip with your child and avoid detours～ ❌Pits to Avoid Wearing the wrong shoes: The cave floor is slippery. We put sneakers on the kid (with worn-out soles, not slip-resistant), and the kid almost fell twice! You must put “non-slip shoes” on your child (soles with deep treads, like hiking shoes or professional non-slip shoes). The park entrance also rents non-slip shoe covers (5 yuan/pair, thicker and more slip-resistant than the free ones). It’s recommended to rent a pair. Choosing the wrong spot on the dark river boat: The first time we took the boat, we sat at the “rear,” and the kid’s view was blocked by the boatman, so they couldn’t see the stalactites on both sides and were unhappy the whole time! Always choose a seat on the “front sides of the boat” (best view). Before boarding, politely ask other passengers, “Can the child sit in front to see the scenery better?” Most will agree. Not bringing the child’s “comfort item”: Some areas in the cave are dimly lit, and the kid got scared and wanted to be held all the time. We didn’t bring the usual comfort toy (small doll), so it took a long time to calm them down!
