2026 Ghana Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in September)

📍Belleza Beach House located in Langma, Kokrobite, Greater Accra Region. It’s a 5‑bedroom + glass house beachfront property. It’s about a 2 hour drive from Accra Mall (used to be an hour and some minutes but due to the nature of the road / traffic, it takes a bit longer to get there). I got to stay here for a night with two of my friends somewhere in August 2025. If you’re planning a trip to Kokrobite, this spot is for you. Perfect for groups, family, or friends. I also think they allow parties/events, so reach out to them find out. Please note; the road leading to Kokrobite isn’t tarred and is currently in bad condition but you’ll definitely see its worth it once you get to your destination. HOW TO GET THERE If you’re driving, you can try using Google maps, it may throw you off at some point but just mention the place to anyone and they’d be able to direct you. By public transport: Take a car heading Kasoa and alight at Barrier. From there, look for the Taxi rank and join the taxi heading to Kokrobite. Once you get to the last stop (the Kokrobite Taxi Rank), you’d have to either continue to Belleza using a motorbike (Okada) or a taxi that will drop you there (costs more).

I arrived on a hot night. The air was thick with humidity and the smell of grilled meat. Music thumped from a bar down the street. Accra is not a city that performs for visitors. It's not polished. It's not curated. It's real in a way that's becoming rare. It's a city of markets and music and color and chaos, and underneath it all, a warmth that disarms you completely. Here's how the capital of Ghana changed the way I see everything. 🌅 6:00 AM — The Fishermen Before The Heat Accra sits on the Gulf of Guinea. At dawn, the fishing boats come in. I walked to Jamestown beach. The boats were painted in bright colors. The fishermen hauled in nets. Women carried baskets of fish on their heads. The sun rose over the ocean. The air smelled of salt and smoke. A boy ran past with a string of fish. He waved. I waved back. This is Accra before the heat. It's the best time. 🆓 Free 📍 @Jamestown Beach ⏰ Before 7 AM ☕ 9:00 AM — Coffee In A Garden Of Art Accra has a growing café culture. I found one called Café Kwae. It's a garden café with plants everywhere. I ordered a flat white and a croissant. The coffee was smooth and strong. The croissant was buttery. I sat in the garden. A group of young professionals discussed business. A student typed on a laptop. This is the new Accra. Confident and creative and connected to the world. 💸 30 GHS (about 3 USD) 📍 @Café Kwae 🏛️ 11:00 AM — The Castle That Remembers Cape Coast Castle is a few hours from Accra. It's a fortress built by the British. Below it, the dungeons where enslaved people were held before being shipped across the Atlantic. I walked through the cells. The walls were dark. The air was heavy. The guide pointed to the Door of No Return. "Thousands passed through," he said. "We remember them." I stood at the door. The ocean stretched out. This is not history. This is memory. It's alive. 💸 40 GHS (about 4 USD) 📍 @Cape Coast Castle 🥘 1:00 PM — Jollof That Tasted Like Celebration Ghana and Nigeria argue about who makes the best jollof. I won't take sides. I'll just say the jollof I ate in Accra was extraordinary. Rice cooked in tomato and pepper and spices, served with grilled chicken and fried plantains. I found it at a small restaurant in Osu. The rice was smoky and rich. The chicken was charred. The plantains were sweet. I ate with my hands. This is Ghanaian food. Bold and generous. 💸 50 GHS (about 5 USD) 📍 Restaurant in @Osu 🎨 3:00 PM — The Market That Never Ends Makola Market is Accra's commercial heart. It's enormous and chaotic and alive. Vendors sell everything. Fabric. Spices. Electronics. Live chickens. I walked through the stalls. A woman sold kente cloth, the traditional woven fabric. She showed me how it's made. The colors were bright. The patterns told stories. I bought a small piece. She wrapped it with care. This is Accra. Color and chaos and commerce, all at once. 🆓 Free to wander 📍 @Makola Market 🌅 5:30 PM — Sunset From Independence Square Independence Square is Accra's monument. It's vast and open. The Independence Arch stands at one end. I sat on the steps. The sun set over the city. The sky turned orange and pink. Families gathered. Children played football. A man sold coconut water. I bought one. He cut it open with a machete. I drank. This is Accra at its most peaceful. 🆓 Free 📍 @Independence Square 🍽️ 8:00 PM — Dinner In A Courtyard Of Music I found a restaurant called Buka in Osu. It's in a courtyard. The walls are covered in art. I ordered banku and tilapia. Banku is fermented corn dough. Tilapia is the fish. It arrived grilled and spicy. I ate with my hands. A band played highlife music. The rhythm was infectious. This is Accra at night. Warm and loud and full of life. 💸 80 GHS (about 8 USD) 📍 @Buka Restaurant 🌙 10:30 PM — The City That Dances Accra doesn't sleep early. I walked through Osu at night. The bars were full. The music was loud. A group of young men danced on the street. They waved me over. I danced with them. I was terrible. They didn't care. This is Accra. It doesn't judge. It invites. I walked back to my hotel. The city hummed around me. It had done its work. Finally crossed this off my bucket list! The last time I was here, six years ago, I wasn't scared at all. Six years later, I'm super terrified but trying to maintain my cool. Anyway, I hope you visit here soon. It's totally worth it! 🚐 Getting There: You can catch a Jukwa bus (trotro) from Abura (Cape Coast). Just tell the driver you'll alight at Kakum National Park. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: The price varies depending on whether you're Ghanaian or a foreigner, as well as your age (child or adult) and student status. PS: The entrance fee is separate from the fees for the canopy walk, hiking, camping, and bird watching. 🥾Activities to Try: Hiking, Canopy Walkway, Bird Watching, and Camping (tree houses and tents are available). There's also a children's park with a mini canopy walkway. PS: Prices vary for each activity. Additionally, there's a free exhibition center at the venue. 🍗 Food: There's a restaurant at the center. 🖼️ Souvenirs: A souvenir shop is located right at the center. 🚎 Returning to Town: You can catch a Cape Coast bus (trotro) at the main gate. Just stand there and flag down a moving bus. Tell the driver or mate that you'll be dropping off at Abura. From there, you can get a cab to your destination. If you're lucky, you might find a Cape Coast bus heading to town. 🗒️ Additional note : There are tourist guides available at the park to assist you during your visit at no additional fee. Daycation Locations in Ada, Ghana – Part 2 Ada is located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana and it is about 2 to 4 hours drive from Accra Mall. There are so many spots to spend a day or have a staycation but these two are places I have personally been to and would recommend. Here’s everything you need to know.

For someone who is always busy and juggling multiple tasks at once, this was the much needed escape away from home. All rooms come fully finished with; ~ A well equipped open kitchen for cooking ~A bathroom with a heater with essentials ~ Closet space for your clothes ~ A smart TV ~ Air conditioning ~ A queen size bed ~ Fast WiFi Nearby places to visit include Atlantic Mall, Center Point Mall, Game It Up etc. It’s about 20 to 30 minutes drive from the Airport, depending on the traffic situation. The road leading to Airbnb isn’t tarred but it’s motorable.
