Kagawa Prefecture Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Naoshima Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Must go Chichu Museum- Naoshima
The Chichu Museum is in the southern part of Naoshima Island in Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture. It was designed by acclaimed architect Tadao Ando and opened to the public in 2004. The museum faces the Seto Inland Sea and was built mainly underground - as per the name in Japanese- to avoid conflict with the natural environment of the valley.
It is a contemporary art museum and exhibits works of art by Claude Monet, James Turrel, and Walter de Maria, and definitely a must visit museum for any art lovers.
To reach the museum, you can take the #2 bus from Miyanoura in Naoshima, and get off at the last stop- Tsutsuji-so. Then take the free shuttle from the same spot provided by the Benesse House . The bus ride to the museum is about 10 minutes.
Tickets should be bought online in advance, as the museum follows strict guidelines for entrance.
There is also a cafe inside the museum which serves simple lunch sets such as sandwiches, salad and soup. The sea view at the cafe is also amazing.

Outdoor Art Space - Lee Ufan Museum- Naoshima

The museum is in a tranquil open space facing the sea which is a perfect space to enjoy art and spend time relaxing.

Then wait for the free Benesse House shuttle bus which takes you to the Chichu Museum, stopping at the Lee Ufan Museum. It is a very short ride. Alternatively you can make the first visit at the Chichu museum, then walk downhill for 3 minutes to the Lee Ufan Museum. Walking to the museum is also possible from the Tsutsuji- so bus stop. In search for the red and yellow pumpkins- Naoshima
Kusama’s pumpkins can be seen in many places these days, but definitely two very famous ones are placed in Naoshima.
These two pumpkins are displayed in different places on the island - the red is next to the pier in Miyanoura. You will not miss it as it is visible while you are still on the ferry. The yellow one- on the other hand- is next to the beach! To get there, you will need to take the number 2 bus (¥100) for about 15 minutes, and get off at the last stop. The bus stop is next to a small beach- look to the
Right end of the beach and you will find the yellow pumpkin. It will be 4-5 minutes to walk there.
You can also walk a little further uphill to see more outdoor works of art on display.

Visit in time : Hiroshi Sugomoto Gallery- Naoshima
There is so much to see on Naoshima and we particularly liked the Hiroshi Sugimoto Gallery: Time Corridors.
The museum is at the foot of the hill from the Benesse House museums. If you choose to walk downhill from the Benease House , then you will definitely find it as there are clear signs on the road.
This museum has art work indoor and in the outdoor exhibition space. It is best to stroll quietly and be lost in time as you emerge yourself in the work of man and nature. The ticket even included a Japanese tea+ dessert to be enjoyed in one of the tea rooms.
Hours 11-2pm daily

Ritsurin Garden Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Kagawa Island
Absolutely beautiful park with many different areas and features, such as a lilypad pond, a lotus pond, many cherry trees and water features, as well as a ton of beautiful koi fish that you can feed.
#passionpassport
Ritsurin Garden (栗林公園, Ritsurin Koen)
Ritsurin Garden (栗林公園, Ritsurin Kōen#staycation #themepark , super nice park at Takamatsu Kagawa Japan.
The Ritsurin Garden symbolizes the prime of "encircled garden" during the Edo period. Whichever season you choose, different views are here for you. I love the Holding Moon Pavilion most. It's a nice place to take a picture because pines, texture painted on small stones, pond and others in the park look very exquisite. I ordered a cup of steamed green tea and fruits to enjoy the scenery. I felt so good!
Mew Travel Lilin Park | Michelin recommended, Japanese garden in the painting
a place that is expected in this trip ~
Li Lilin Park began to build in 1642, spent 100 years Time is carefully carved, green mountains and green waters, one step at a time, each scene can constitute a quaint Japanese scroll.
We came early in the morning, there are still no people in the park, only occasionally seeing a few garden workers pruning plants. The sun is still obscured by the clouds, showing a blue-yellow, cool-toned picture, full of mystery, quiet and quiet, with an unreal feeling, thinking that he is still in a dream.
There are gradually a few sun rays coming in through the intertwined branches and leaves, and it has become another dreamy scene. It is really beautiful.
has six pools and thirteen rockeries, all of which offer a completely different style of view. The pine trees are particularly rich in variety, and they are elegant and classical. Many of them are two or three hundred years old, so they are so admired!
When you walked to the lake, there was a feeling of openness in front of you. The semicircular Lunar Bridge in the middle of the lake is reflected on the water. The boat is layered and layered. The level is full of Zen. There are many koi in the water. When people come over, they will look up and eat.
When you are tired, you will take a nap in the pavilion surrounded by the lake. The room in the tatami room is too pleasant. Matcha is accompanied by traditional Japanese snacks. This exquisite environment is worth staying all day, and the time goes by.

Shozu District Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Lover's sanctuary ~ Angel's road
Must-visit attractions on Shodoshima Island.
What travelers see: Lover's paradise ~ Angel's road.
It is a natural landscape formed by the ebb and flow of seawater.
You are fortunate enough to personally experience the charming path formed as the tide recedes.
You can stay at the Shodoshima Island International Hotel.
Watch the beautiful sunset landscape.
The subtle changes of the Angel's Road, with the ebb and flow, the path gradually widens. Walking on the soft sandy beach, a gentle breeze brings a faint sea scent, making one feel refreshed and happy.
At the end of the Angel's Road is a small island, where pairs of lovers pray on the trees, swaying in the wind, wishing to become family and grow old together.
As the tide rises, the path slowly narrows and is submerged in seawater.
Quickly leave the Angel's Road, or your shoes will get wet.
May all lovers in the world eventually become family 🙏

Kotohiragu Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
1368 steps to the inner shrine of Kotohira -gu
Kotohira shrine in Kagawa prefecture in Shikoku is a shrine dedicated to sailors and seafarers. It is situated at 521 m - halfway to the top of Mount Zozu.
The journey starts from the Kotohira town where there is a row of souvenir shops and restaurants, and it will gradually go uphill with a long stretch of stairs. There is a large tori at the entrance of Kotohira- gu, while the two sides stood many stone pillars marking the “millions “ of yen contributed to the shrine over the years.
There were many large and small shrines as we walked up the long flight of stairs, and we made our first stop at 477 steps where there were two beautiful white horses that werr 14 and 18 years old. There was also a cafe at 500 steps but it was already closed when we arrived.
Our next stop was the Main Shrine at 785 steps. The view of the nearby towns and fields from there was quite spectacular! However as it was closed to 5pm we noticed the workers started to close some of the windows of the shrine. Just as we were about to start uphill again, we were told that the premise gate will close by 6pm, and we should start to go downhill. As much as we wanted to reach the top, we couldn’t make it this time.
If you are planning to complete the whole journey uphill, I would recommend to start from 2 or 3 pm latest as there are many interesting things to see and photos to be taken. You would also want to take your time to walk slowly and rest from time to time. There is no admission fee to visit Kotohira gu.

One day tour at Kotohira 琴平町
Kotoshira is at Shikoku in Japan, which is an island between Osaka and Kyushu. It's not a very common travelling place as it's more rural - people tend to go to the city.
It's indeed a nice place as there are a lot of locals and little tourists.
1. Kotohiragu
- Known as the hardest-to-go temple as it's up on the hill
2. Street
- Udon flavoured ice cream - very special
- Customise wooden keychain souvenir
- Local restaurant with homy food like sashimi set and tempura
Cafe and Restaurant: Shiseido Parlour 🇯🇵
#thingstodo
One of the highlights of our trip to Kanagawa Japan was a visit to the Cafe and Restaurant serviced by Shiseido Parlour Kamitsubaki, and it was well worth a visit!
This cafe and restaurant is located inside the Konpira Shrine grounds. In addition to the drink menu, the light meals and snacks served feature locally produced ingredients. Everything was delicious!
Address:
892-1 Kotohira-cho, Nakatado-gun, 766-0001 Kagawa
My rating: 4 ⭐️ out of 5!
Konpira Shrine (Kotohiragu), Kagawa 🇯🇵
#thingstodo
One of the top attractions in Kagawa Prefecture Japan is the Konpira Shrine, also known as Kotohiragu, which was a place of worship as both a Shintō shrine and a Buddhist temple.
The shrine has several buildings located at intervals on the side of steep Mount Zōzu, linked by a long path with many steps. Climbing up all the steps is an effort, but you will be rewarded by some beautiful sights and views!
Highly recommend a visit, you’ll be in awe!

Teshima Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Teshima
You can take a ferry to access to this one of the most beautiful islands around Kagawa. It is pretty small to explore but feels so good for just relaxing and spending time with great nature. About transportation, unfortunately there are not so many buses however, you can rent a car or even bikes that is enough for exploring all around the island.
A good place to take a small fresh film, Seto Inland Sea, Toshima!
Seto Inland Sea's favorite island - Toshima! People who have been to say this!
Fengdao's terrain is very suitable for taking pictures, if the weather is good, really take a big shot! Unfortunately, when we went, it was cloudy, and the color of the sea was not good! Even so, we feel that Toshima is very good!
Same as Naoshima, because we have Japanese friends, we still choose to drive! Due to the closure of the museum, all the works of art are not open to the public, so we transferred Fengdao two times in more than two hours!
Fengdao has a lot of beautiful places to take pictures, restaurants on the beach, roads leading to the sea, street signs on the beach, even if the weather is bad, it feels very good! You can also imagine how good it will be when you shoot it on a sunny day!
Fengdao must be the island that I will buy back again. Next time I must rent a bicycle and ride slowly! ! We must make up the art museum that we did not visit!
Transportation: To Toshima, you can choose to go to the port of Uno, or take a boat in Takamatsu Port! Toshima has a bus to the Toshima Museum of Art, but it is best to rent a bicycle and ride slowly! !
Photo Guide: Toshima is very suitable for taking small fresh photos. You can wear elegant skirts and straw hats as much as possible. The colors can be white or green or blue!
Taking the Takamatsu of Kagawa Prefecture, the four Japanese countries, as the main axis, around the Seto Inland Sea, there are some small islands of literature and art, the most famous ones are Shodoshima, Naoshima, Toshima.
This time I gave up Naoshima and came to Toshima. I only saw a lot of beautiful pictures on the Internet in advance, and I feel more like the blue sky and blue sky of Toshima and the beautiful scenery of the beautiful island.
Highlights on the island
If you want to travel in a literary way, be sure to come to Seto Inland Sea! The places that are favored by the artists are all works of art. The trash cans that are as small as the museums can be called art. Among the many small islands in the Seto Inland Sea, Naoshima and Toshima are must-see, and both of them have a lot of artistic highlights on the island!
Toshima must punch:
1 Toshima Museum: An art gallery with no exhibits, the building itself is a work of art, and it looks like a drop of water embedded on a hillside. There are also a lot of small water droplets on the ground. Standing inside is very ethereal, listening to the wind is very comfortable, is one of my favorite art museums!
2 Tokushima Yokoo: The work of the artist Yokoo Hiroshi is transformed from three Japanese-style old houses. It looks very traditional outside. There is a cave in it. It is a modern art museum worth seeing~
3 sea restaurant: In addition to the art gallery, this sea view restaurant in Toshima is also better than punching cards! The glass shed for the open-air seating is on the seashore and faces west. You can see the superb sunset seascape in the evening. I ordered the signature olive-tasta rice, the Seto inland sea is rich in olives, the cows are eating olives and growing up, and the Iberian black pigs eating acorn have a fight.
PS: This year is the Seto Inland Sea Art Year. The 2019 Seto Inland International Art Festival will open immediately next month. There will be more works of art to watch, and there will be free PASS for the festival. Visit a lot of art galleries on the island~~
