Zijin Wenmiao

Wenmiao, also known as the Holy Temple or the Sacred Palace, was first built in the fifth year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, which is the third year after the establishment of Pingyuan Prefecture. After several reconstructions and repairs, it was rebuilt during the Tongzhi years. Zijin Wenmiao consists of archways, Lingxing gates, Dacheng gates, Tianzi platforms, Dacheng halls, and Chongsheng temples. Pingyuan Prefecture Wenmiao is Zijin Wenmiao. For nearly 300 years after the temple was built, it was a cultural center for Zijin to worship Confucius and promote Confucianism. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution and ended with the remaining ruins in the early 1990s. Today, a new Wenmiao has been built in Pingyuan Ancient Town. According to the introduction, although the reason for the new construction of Wenmiao is the destruction of Wenmiao, it has nothing to do with the original Wenmiao. It is one of the cultural buildings independently planned and designed by the construction party of Pingyuan Ancient Town. During the construction process, it was heard that the scattered components of the ancient Wenmiao were hidden in the mountain caves by people with intentions and were willing to donate to the construction of the current Wenmiao. The construction party decided to adhere to the principle of 'use as much as possible', and invited Wenmiao experts to study and formulate rectification and restoration plans. After several efforts, the pattern of 'integrating the old with the new, and blending the bloodlines' was finally presented. The Wenmiao was reborn, and the relocation and reconstruction of the Wenmiao was carried out according to the records of Zijin historical materials. Some of the stone materials used came from the old Wenmiao. When visiting Wenmiao in Pingyuan Ancient Town, the mixed use of old and new architectural structures is a major feature.
