Kunming’s Karst Stone Forest

#Kunming #unesco We wanted to visit this attraction under our own speed so booked a Didi there. I’m sure the journey can be made much cheaper but a taxi from Kunming city centre to the Stone Forest (Shilin Yizu County) cost RMB355. Tickets were easy to get on the day with proper ID. There are lots of guides dressed in traditional clothes of the ethnic tribe. We didn’t employ a guide however they seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. Getting around the park is easy. A shuttle bus takes you from the tourist centre/ticket booth to the forest. There’s a small additional fee for that service. Alternatively, you can walk the 20-25 minutes. We took the shuttle option. Because we were travelling during a quiet season, there wasn’t much in the way of shopping or food provided. There are vending machines available for water and cool drinks. The most enjoyable part of the excursion was finding the different shapes or interpretations of shapes in the rock formations. Strolling through the Stone Forest was peaceful sometimes, eerie at others, but overall we felt like we had this unique feature all to ourselves and that was special.
