It's a great location with a physical workout due to the many stairs you'll encounter, but it's worth the effort. Many Cambodians will embark on an adventure here to enjoy the peaceful and majestic splendor of stupas and monuments dedicated to past kings for worship, pilgrimage, or both. During my visit, I was fortunate enough to meet many Buddhist monks of all ages, who were generous enough to allow me to take photos. It's a haven for photographers with plenty of places to explore and a variety of subjects to document. The place is beautiful, mystical, and enigmatic. I was already here at 6 AM on my bike and there was no one else there!!! Shooting the sunrise at such a place was a reward for yesterday's 137km on the bike. Oudong Temple is located at the foothills of Mount Oudong, about 40km northwest of the modern capital Phnom Penh. Oudong was the royal residence and the capital of Cambodia for more than 250 years until 1866. The monumental royal necropolis of several centuries of monarchs is scattered across the prominent split mountain tops that run from southeast to northeast.
