Deep within the heart of Mount Aso, I was surprised to find a serene Buddhist temple nestled amidst the magnificent volcanic landscape—the Saigan-den Temple, the main hall of Mount Aso. The moment I stepped onto the stone steps, the stark contrast between the surrounding volcanic terrain and the temple's wooden structure created a striking juxtaposition of ruggedness and solemnity. Saigan-den is a vital center of Aso's religious faith, enduringly guarding this volcanic land and embodying people's reverence and prayers for nature. Visiting in autumn or winter was particularly poignant. The crisp air, coupled with the gentle curling of incense smoke before the temple, made me unconsciously slow my pace. Standing before the temple and gazing at the Aso mountains, I felt as if I could sense the volcano's breath and the calming power of faith.
