El Nido was one of those places I had seen so many times online that I wondered if it would actually look that good in real life. After spending 4 days here, I can say the limestone cliffs, clear water and small islands really are worth the trip. Here’s my simple 4D3N itinerary and how I got there. ✈️ How to Get to El Nido The easiest option is flying directly to El Nido Airport (LIO) from Manila or Cebu. Flights are limited and can be more expensive, but you save a lot of travel time. Another option is flying to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) and taking a van to El Nido. The van ride takes around 5–6 hours and usually costs around $12–20, depending on the operator and vehicle. I chose the Puerto Princesa route because there are usually more flight options and the overall cost can be lower. 🌴 Day 1 — Arrive in El Nido After arriving in El Nido, I checked into my hotel and spent the afternoon walking around town. El Nido town itself is quite small, so most places are easy to reach by walking or tricycle. In the evening, I went to Corong Corong Beach to watch the sunset. It was a relaxing way to start the trip. 🛶 Day 2 — Island Hopping Tour A This was the highlight of my trip. I joined Tour A, which usually includes places such as Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Shimizu Island and Seven Commandos Beach. The scenery is exactly what you imagine when you think of El Nido — turquoise water surrounded by huge limestone cliffs. A shared island-hopping tour usually costs around $20–30/person, depending on the season and inclusions. Bring a waterproof bag because you'll spend quite a lot of time getting on and off the boat. 🌅 Day 3 — Nacpan Beach + Sunset Instead of doing another full-day boat tour, I kept the third day slower. I visited Nacpan Beach, one of the most famous beaches around El Nido. The beach is long, quiet and much more spacious than the small beaches visited during island hopping. In the afternoon, I went back toward town and spent the evening at Las Cabanas Beach for sunset. This was probably my favorite part of the trip because there was no strict schedule — just beach, food and sunset. ✈️ Day 4 — Slow Morning & Departure I had breakfast, walked around El Nido one more time and checked out. If you're flying from Puerto Princesa, remember to leave plenty of time for the 5–6 hour van journey. If your budget allows, flying directly from El Nido Airport is much more convenient. 🍜 What to Eat in El Nido Don't spend the whole trip eating Western food. El Nido has plenty of Filipino dishes worth trying. 🍚 Chicken Adobo — chicken cooked with soy sauce, vinegar and spices. Simple but very flavorful. 🍢 Pork BBQ — grilled skewers that are great for a quick and inexpensive meal. 🍜 Pancit — Filipino stir-fried noodles, usually served with meat, seafood or vegetables. 🥥 Halo-Halo — a colorful Filipino dessert with shaved ice, sweet beans, fruit and other toppings. Perfect after a hot day at the beach. Fresh seafood is also worth trying, especially at local restaurants around town. Prices can vary a lot, so I recommend checking the menu before ordering. 💡 Travel Tips for El Nido 1. Bring cash 💵 Some smaller restaurants, shops and local services may not accept cards. ATMs are available, but it's better not to rely on them completely. 2. Bring a dry bag It's extremely useful during island hopping. Your phone, wallet and camera can easily get wet when transferring between the boat and beach. 3. Don't overpack If you're staying in El Nido town and joining boat tours, a small backpack is much more convenient than a large suitcase. 4. Book island hopping early Tour A is very popular, especially during peak season. Booking in advance can save time and give you more choices. 5. Bring reef-safe sunscreen You'll spend a lot of time outdoors and on the water, so sunscreen is essential. 6. Expect slow island life Don't expect everything to run exactly on time. Boat schedules, weather and local transportation can sometimes change. Leave some flexibility in your itinerary. 7. Check the weather before booking boat tours 🌦️ The sea can become rough when the weather changes. Island-hopping activities may be adjusted or cancelled for safety reasons. 💰 Estimated Budget For a 4D3N trip, excluding international flights: · Hotel: $20–60/night · Puerto Princesa → El Nido van: $12–20 · Island hopping: $20–30/person · Food: $5–15/meal · Tricycle/local transport: $2–5 · Activities & entrance fees: around $20–40 A comfortable 4D3N trip can be done for roughly $180–300/person, depending on your hotel and activities. #sunsetplaces One of my favorite experiences was camping with friends at Tanyon Bay in Ronda, Cebu. We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, spent time together, and of course, watched the beautiful sunset by the sea. 🌅 The sunset views were absolutely stunning, perfect for taking photos and simply relaxing while enjoying the sound of the waves. The camping fee was ₱300 per person for an overnight stay, plus ₱300 for the tent. It’s a nice and affordable place for a simple weekend getaway with friends. Water looking so clear, yet I picked up a bag full of trash in about 40 mins😒 I have been trying my best to reduce trash for about a decade, bringing my own reusable bags everywhere and refusing as much disposable plastic as I can, and still, some plastic bags creep in my house. I will stuff them in every corner of my suitcase, and always bring a lot more than what seems necessary. Wherever I go, I can't help it and pick up trash. The plastic bags end up super useful then, after they've helped keeping slightly damp clothes, making sure no thing leaks all over my bags, etc. I have also been bringing empty dog food bags as they are so sturdy and have ziplock openings: I use them to protect electronics and notebooks when it's raining, do my laundry (stuff the dirty clothes with warm water and soap, shake it all up and step on it to get the water out)... I've had people seeing me using them asking if I could leave it to them as I leave. I've never regretted bringing all my plastic bags, and reusing them for another round until they end up as garbage bags for all the litter I've picked up. #ecotravel #beach #beachvacation

#overratedspots Expectations vs. Reality at the Temple of Leah in Cebu City! 🏛️🫠 While it is marketed as a grand monument to everlasting love, standing here in person feels a bit more like walking into a massive, unfinished Greek-Roman film set that got heavily crowded.Don't get me wrong—the massive 10-foot brass statue in the center and the Roman columns are impressive, but the majority of the side chambers are completely locked up or stuffed with random memorabilia boxes. Unless you are desperate for a specific Instagram outfit photo, you might find yourself doing a full loop and feeling ready to leave in less than 20 minutes. The paradise that is Cebu 🇵🇭🏝️ From canyons to crystal clear water There are places you visit for the photos. And then there are places where the journey becomes part of the memory. Cebu is definitely the second kind. At first glance, it looks like the perfect tropical destination: turquoise water, white sand, palm trees and endless sunshine. But spend a few days exploring beyond the city and you’ll realise Cebu has a completely different side. There are winding coastal roads, tiny towns, dramatic mountains, waterfalls hidden between limestone cliffs and adventures that somehow turn into stories you’ll still be talking about months later. And that’s exactly why Cebu keeps pulling travellers back. 🇵🇭 🌊 THE CANYONEERING ADVENTURE One of the experiences that immediately comes to mind when people talk about Cebu is canyoneering around Badian and Kawasan Falls. This isn’t your typical sightseeing activity where you walk to a viewpoint, take a photo and leave. You’re actually part of the adventure. The route takes you through a beautiful canyon landscape, with towering rock walls, clear pools and flowing freshwater. Depending on the route and conditions, you can find yourself trekking, swimming, climbing, scrambling over rocks and jumping into natural pools. And yes, some of the jumps can look absolutely terrifying when you’re standing at the edge. 😂 But once you’re in the water, the whole experience becomes less about getting the perfect photo and more about enjoying the moment. 💦 KAWASAN FALLS Then you reach the famous turquoise water of Kawasan Falls. The colour almost doesn’t look real. It’s that bright blue green shade that makes you check your camera settings because surely your phone must be exaggerating it. But the water really can look incredible. The waterfalls and surrounding jungle create one of Cebu’s most recognisable natural landscapes, and seeing it after working your way through the canyon makes the arrival feel even more rewarding. If you’re planning to do canyoneering, remember that conditions can affect access and the exact experience. Water levels, weather and local safety rules matter, so follow your guide rather than treating an online itinerary as a guarantee. 🛣️ THE ROAD IS PART OF THE TRIP One thing I love about Cebu is that some of the best memories aren’t necessarily at the final destination. They’re somewhere between destinations. A random roadside viewpoint. A tiny local restaurant. A village you weren’t planning to stop in. A conversation with someone you met for five minutes. A beautiful stretch of coastline appearing around a corner. That is the part of travelling around Cebu that photos don’t really capture. You start with a destination in mind, but the road keeps giving you little reasons to slow down. 🏝️ CEBU ISN’T JUST ONE BEACH If your Cebu itinerary is only beaches, you’re missing a huge part of what makes the island interesting. There are waterfalls, mountain landscapes, diving spots, coastal towns, caves, rivers and offshore islands. Depending on how long you have, you can build completely different trips around the island. Want adventure? Make the south your priority. Want diving? Look into the areas known for marine life and underwater experiences. Want island scenery? Plan time around the smaller islands and coastal areas. Want a slower holiday? Pick one base and explore without changing hotels every night. You don’t need to do everything. Actually, trying to do everything is probably the fastest way to turn a tropical holiday into a transport marathon. 😂 🤿 THE UNDERWATER WORLD Cebu is also a major destination for diving and snorkelling. And once you put your head underwater, the island suddenly feels completely different. The Philippines sits within one of the world’s most biodiverse marine regions, so the underwater scenery can be just as memorable as what you see above the surface. Depending on where you go, you can encounter colourful reef systems, tropical fish, turtles and other marine life. If you’re not a diver, don’t worry. There are plenty of snorkelling experiences that let you enjoy the water without needing scuba certification. Just choose operators carefully, follow local guidelines and avoid touching marine life or coral. 🌅 THE BEAUTY OF A CEBU ROAD TRIP There’s something about travelling around Cebu by road that makes the island feel much bigger than it looks on a map. You leave one town and suddenly the scenery changes. Busy streets become quiet roads. Buildings give way to greenery. The coastline appears. Then the mountains. Then another little village. And eventually you arrive somewhere that looks completely different from where you started that morning. That contrast is what makes a Cebu trip feel like an adventure rather than simply a beach holiday. 👫 SOLO, COUPLE OR GROUP? Cebu works surprisingly well for different types of travellers. Travelling solo? You can join organised activities and meet people along the way without needing to plan every detail yourself. Travelling as a couple? You can mix adventure days with slower evenings, beaches and sunset spots. Travelling with friends? This is where Cebu gets chaotic in the best possible way. Canyoneering with your friends, getting soaked, screaming during cliff jumps and then laughing about it over food afterwards is exactly the kind of travel memory that stays with you. And if you’re travelling with a group, splitting transport costs can also make longer road trips easier to manage. 🎒 WHAT TO BRING FOR ADVENTURE DAYS Keep your packing simple. Cebu is much easier when you’re carrying less. 🌦️ CHECK THE WEATHER BEFORE YOU GO Cebu is tropical, which means weather can affect outdoor activities. Rain isn’t automatically a disaster, but heavy rainfall can affect waterfalls, canyoning routes, boat trips and road conditions. If you’re planning an adventure that depends on water conditions, don’t lock yourself into a rigid schedule where one cancelled activity ruins the entire trip. Build a little flexibility into your itinerary. Sometimes the best travel plan is the one that leaves room for the weather to make the decision. ✈️ GETTING TO CEBU Cebu is served by Mactan Cebu International Airport, making it one of the Philippines’ major international gateways. For travellers coming from Kuala Lumpur, direct flight options can make Cebu especially convenient for a tropical escape without needing to connect through Manila. Once you’re on the island, though, remember that Cebu’s geography can make travel times longer than they look on a map. A destination might appear close in kilometres but still take much longer because of traffic and road conditions. So when planning your itinerary, don’t schedule five attractions just because Google Maps makes them look close together. Give yourself breathing room. 🌴 THE CEBU I WANT TO REMEMBER For me, the best version of Cebu isn’t just standing beside the most famous waterfall. It’s the whole day. Waking up early. Getting on the road while the island is still quiet. Watching the landscape change outside the window. Stopping somewhere for breakfast. Meeting locals. Getting completely soaked during an adventure. Swimming in water that looks unreal. Laughing with the people you’re travelling with. Then finding somewhere to eat at the end of the day while you’re exhausted but already talking about what you’ll do tomorrow. Those are the moments that make a destination stick with you. 📸 AND YES, TAKE THE PHOTOS Of course, take the photos. Get the waterfall shot. Get the canyon shot. Take the beach pictures. Film the road trip. But don’t let your phone become the entire experience. Some of the best memories from Cebu might be the ones you never post. The random conversation. The ridiculous inside joke. The moment everyone screamed at the same time before jumping into the water. The roadside stop you didn’t plan. That’s the Cebu you remember. 🇵🇭 WHY CEBU DESERVES A PLACE ON YOUR LIST Cebu isn’t simply a tropical island where you go to lie on the beach for five days. It can be that if that’s what you want. Cebu is relatively affordable even among Southeast Asian destinations, and compared to my other overseas trips, I was able to keep costs quite low. In particular, dining and transportation costs via Grab felt significantly cheaper than in Japan. However, there were a few things I thought, "I wish I had known this beforehand!" after actually going, so I'll introduce them here along with the costs. ⸻ 💰 Cebu Travel Expenses The general breakdown of the costs for this trip is as shown in the image. Including airfare, hotels, meals, sightseeing, and transportation, I was able to travel quite reasonably overall. Of course, costs vary greatly depending on the hotel rank and activities, but for those who say "I want to go abroad but want to keep costs down as much as possible," Cebu is highly recommended. ⸻ 4 Things to Watch Out for on a Cebu Trip ① Be careful with domestic transfers in Manila Many people traveling from Japan to Cebu use routes that involve a domestic transfer in Manila. What you need to be careful about is the transfer at Manila Airport. The airport is quite large, and depending on the situation, you may need to move between terminals. And if you get the terminal wrong, it’s a big deal. In my case, there was a gate change midway, and it was quite a rush. If you think, "Once I get to Manila, I just need to get on the plane to Cebu!", you might actually struggle quite a bit. If you are booking a connecting flight, I recommend checking the terminal thoroughly in advance. It's especially safer to allow plenty of time for your layover. ⸻ ② It's recommended to carry some cash There are many shops in Cebu where you can use credit cards, and I didn't feel like "cards can't be used at all!" during my trip. However, there are occasionally shops that only accept cash. Therefore, instead of going completely card-only, it's recommended to have a certain amount of cash ready. Basically, I used a style of using my card for most things and using cash where necessary. I don't think you need to exchange a large amount of money all at once, but having a minimum amount of cash will give you peace of mind. ⸻ ③ Whale shark tours are very early in the morning! A popular activity for Cebu trips is the whale shark tour. I participated as well, but what you should be careful about here is how early the meeting time is. It depends on the tour, but hotel departure times are often around 3:00 to 4:00 AM. It’s really early 😂 Moreover, since the environment during the tour isn't one where you can take a leisurely shower, I personally strongly recommend making sure you can return to your hotel afterward. I used the hotel's late check-out on this day. After returning to the hotel from the tour, I: · Took a shower · Changed clothes · Slept a little · Then checked out leisurely That was the flow. This was really great. Since it was after waking up at 3:00 AM and participating in a long tour, just being able to return to the hotel, shower, and rest in bed for a bit helped me recover a lot. If you're planning a whale shark tour, please definitely consider a late check-out. ⸻ ④ The Grab app is a must! The thing I personally recommend most for a Cebu trip is to install Grab beforehand. I basically used Grab for all my transportation. Personally, Grab felt safer than using street taxis. You can specify the destination on the app, and you know the fare in advance. And above all, the fare was quite cheap. It was useful in various situations, such as moving from the airport to the hotel, going to sightseeing spots, and returning to the hotel. It's safer to download the app and complete account registration while you're still in Japan. 🌴 My Unforgettable Moalboal Adventure 🇵🇭 I visited Moalboal, Philippines, in June 2026, and it was honestly one of the most unforgettable trips! 😍 I stayed in a beautiful and comfortable bungalow located less than 500m from the famous Sardine Run and only 100m from Panagsama Road, making it such a convenient place to stay. 🤿 I also found an amazing diving team who made my scuba-diving experience even more special. Their underwater videos were incredible! This isn't an official global index, but a guide for travel and remote work. 🥇 1. Singapore Lightning-fast home internet, a stable mobile network, and Wi‑Fi practically everywhere. You can upload heavy files faster than you can regret the price of your coffee. The main downside is that connectivity, like everything in Singapore, isn't the cheapest. 🥈 2. Malaysia A strong mobile network, affordable data plans, and a smooth work experience in Kuala Lumpur, George Town, and Langkawi.
