The view is super good and I loved it! You can walk around the street in there. There are also different restaurants around. Most importantly, the hotel price is much cheaper! During this trip to Switzerland, I experienced two famous scenic train routes: Luzern–Interlaken Express (GoldenPass Line) + Glacier Express If you already have a Swiss Travel Pass (STP), both fares are covered, so you don't need to buy separate tickets. However, the "reservation rules" for these two trains are very different. The Luzern–Interlaken Express does not require mandatory reservations, whereas the Glacier Express absolutely requires a paid reservation. ⸻ 💛 Luzern–Interlaken Express | Lakeside Views All the Way We took the route from Luzern to Interlaken Ost, a journey of about 1 hour and 50 minutes. I found this segment very comfortable. The scenery isn't the kind of breathtaking, high-altitude mountain landscape, but rather typical, therapeutic Swiss countryside. Outside the window, you'll see: ・Turquoise lakes ・Lush green hillsides and wooden chalets ・Waterfalls and rivers ・Quaint lakeside towns ・People strolling and sunbathing by the lake ・Residents enjoying their holidays on small boats The entire route passes through the Brünig Pass. Official guides say you can see five lakes along this stretch before finally entering Interlaken along Lake Brienz. Watching people walk and row by the lake really makes you think, "How is the daily life of the Swiss so leisurely?" 🎫 Should you reserve a seat on the GoldenPass? Reservations are not mandatory, but I recommend them during peak season. We happened to encounter a tour group this time, so even First Class was almost full, and the carriage was a bit lively 😂 For the 2026 peak season (May 2 – Nov 1), the reservation fee is CHF 16 per person; during the off-season, it’s CHF 12. We booked our seats directly through the official system in advance. If you care about having a window seat or don't want to search for a spot, I think it’s worth the money. ⸻ ❤️ Glacier Express | High Mountains and Canyon Landscapes The Glacier Express is completely different from the previous train. Reservations are mandatory! The STP covers the ticket price, but the reservation fee is not included. For 2026, the reservation fee for both first and second class is CHF 54 per person, and the official system currently allows bookings as early as 93 days before travel. We originally wanted to take a more complete route, but when we checked about two months in advance, many seats were already gone. We finally managed to book: Brig → Chur, a journey of about 4 hours. ⸻ 🏔️ What to see between Brig and Chur? Although this segment does not pass over the classic Landwasser Viaduct (which is on the route from Chur toward St. Moritz), it still features very important highlights of the Glacier Express. The most notable sights include: ・Andermatt ・Oberalp Pass ・Oberalpsee ・Rhine Gorge The train climbs to the highest point of the entire Glacier Express—the Oberalp Pass, at an altitude of 2,033 meters. Right next to it is the mountain lake, Oberalpsee. The train moves slowly along the high-altitude lake, offering a completely different view from the lakeside towns seen on the GoldenPass. The latter part passes through the Rhine Gorge, with white cliffs sandwiching the turquoise Rhine River. The Glacier Express has a much stronger high-mountain feel, showcasing valleys, passes, alpine lakes, and canyons. The experience of the train climbing to 2,033 meters is quite significant. Although it was a pity we didn't get to ride the Landwasser Viaduct segment this time, the Oberalp Pass, Oberalpsee, and Rhine Gorge still made the Brig → Chur segment very worthwhile. If you already have an STP, I think arranging scenic trains for long-distance travel days is a great deal—the travel time itself becomes the attraction. 🚆🏔️

From the top station it’s 25 min down a gravel path to the lake, or CHF 8–10 on the electric shuttle if your knees protest. The loop I actually recommend: lake shore → Oberbärgli climb (steep, 492 m gain over 8.4 km total) → Unterbärgli descent → back to the station.
